I haven't exactly been defending his actions. I have also never said I think the leafs should try and aquire him. My defense of him has simply been due to noone giving actual proof that he's some sort of monster. Everyone just keeps spitting out the same things, he's abusive, aggressive, etc. The 1 conviction against him is for disorderly conduct and harassment, in which he pleaded for. Meaning it's worse than what he was convicted for, but not as egregious as the report makes it out to be. As far as the stuff with his wife goes, he is making a better claim against her, than she is of him.

Here is some of his background. I mean..... one or 2 minor transgressions early in his career? Sure.

But it's escalating year after year.

wow.....I LOVED simmonds response re kaner..

But it would have been uber cool if Simmonds had said, hey, because he is black and and I am obviously black, you guys want my opinion.

But Simmonds was too cool to voice any opinion...

But I bet if DUBES, had any interest in Kane, he would go to the top six on the team..

I always liked Kane as a player, but the NHL waived him, no bites.

Nuthin more needs to be said at this point.

Yes,we have been teased a few times, but I have no problem saying we are a contender for Stanley...

Present, team mates have been silent, his wife has not been, past team mates have been silent but past team executives have not been silent because they got rid of him, not for his play.
Why touch him?

I would take him at 50 percent provided that were not giving up anything of value. LW has been a desperate need for a long time

Leafs are top 10 in the NHL for goals scored. Scoring is not an issue for the Leafs, adding a player who was not liked by his last 3 teams and has a poor reputation is a disaster waiting to happen.

Who are the Leafs 5th and 6th leading scorers behind the big 4 again? I forget. :sarcasm:

Kane scores goals and is a tough mofo. The leafs can benefit from one of those and win a cup with the other.

Depends if Dubas/Keefe think he'll drastically mess the locker room up. They know the dynamic in there more than we do and understand how someone like Kane can potentially change it.

pretty sure those two would actually ask a bunch of the players (Leafs, obviously) how they feel about him joining the team. He has that much baggage.

I don't believe he's evil, nobody is good or bad, we are complex creatures. I think the guy went through a lot of f_cked up shit as a child that has not been disclosed, probably has underlying mental health issues to boot that explain but not excuse his violent and reckless off ice behaviour.
So you are saying to get him on the team and send him to a shrink?

The guy needs at least one offseason to go through some self reflection before he should be considered as a reclamation project.

There will be potential nice pickings from the remains of the Habs and Nucks when they start to blow things up probably near the tdl

Neither the Habs or Canucks are going to do Dubas any favors. The asking price will be more from Toronto than other teams. You should see the ransom that Canucks fans want for Miller. It is ******* Absurd for a guy they signed as a free agent.

I get that Kane has some baggage, but he is the best player the Leafs could get for a decent price. I would ship Ritchie and Holl out. Get San Jose to retain 50% and you got yourself a 1st line LW and gain $1M in cap space.

Holy hell. That's the equivalent of saying there were some injuries on 9/11

Did no one read this article FFS?

And if the problems that have followed him around to every team come up here?
Kane has worn out his welcome on every team he has ever played on. 2 of the 3 teams got to the point where the players demand he is removed from the team.

With our cap structure we can’t afford his 3.5m in dead cap if it doesn’t work out here and he has given no reason to think anything has changed with him.
He started the season with his teammates demanding he be traded and some bad personal accusations and he responded by submitting false vaccination paperwork.

If he messes up here we might not be able to find anyone else to take him. How many chances do you think teams are going to give this guy?
At that point we are stuck buying him out and he has signing bonuses in his contract that can’t be bought out.

Seems like he has a gambling addiction by the context of this article.

I get it is a big risk, but perhaps he could let the shaded past go.

My guess is he ends up in Vancouver anyway.
Wearing out his welcome on his first 2 teams wasn’t enough to let his issues go on his 3rd.
Why would you think he would change this time.

Boston is looking to get rid of Debrusk, I'm wondering if they would have interest in Kane. Boston has a history of acquiring head cases (see Hall last year), and Kane does play that nasty and skilled style Boston loves to play.

I'll keep posting it every time someone wants to take in a felon who ruins teams and thinks they are intelligent.

I don't know that I agree with him necessarily as a felon that ruins teams but I don't have faith in the Leaf's locker room culture to absorb any kind of a hit. I don't believe they are a tight unit, all rowing in exactly the same direction behind Captain JT, in spite of their recent success. I also don't know that Kane is a cancer for sure, but the only way you add someone like him is if you can deal with a random factor who needs to be near the top of his game to earn the fat deal he signed, and if you can babysit that player to ensure that. Skill aside, do they actually have a Sittler/Gilmour/Sundin type player who can make sure a new guy follows the code?

The Leafs are too fragile to deal with a potential poison pill, and sitting at 1st overall, they don't appear to have any Kane sized hole that needs filling. I believe in giving people a chance, and that if the courts are done with them we should be too, but even at 0 chance to re-offend and salary retention as well, he still might not be worth adding. Inconsistent + very overpaid + what new shenanigans are up his sleeve?

This is his last chance. He knows it!

That is why.

He had to know he was getting damn close to that point this summer and he submitted false vaccine documentation.
He has done nothing to show you he is going to change and if we bring him in and it doesn’t work out it would be a disaster.
Picking him up is taking a massive risk on a guy who has screwed up everywhere he has gone.
