Report: 'Several' Sharks Players Don't Want Evander Kane Back Amid Betting Probe

it is extremely rare for a player to be ostracized by their team in the way Evander has in SJ. You can even date his reputation back to his time in WPG as well.

There is clearly a character issue with Evander that he needs to prove himself away from. I am a big fan of second chances, but he needs to start from the ground up at this point. It is a complete no from me.

I am actually shocked that there are so many reported takers TBH.

I recognize Evander is a good player, but my god when was the last time players on a team have come out and publicly mentioned they would not play with another member of the active roster? I literally can't think of 1 other time

Jumbo and Auston are boys, don't think for 1 second Auston hasn't heard some of the shit Evander must have pulled. Even Bogo likely keeps close ties with some of our players. I am sure almost everyone on the team has a negative connotation towards Evander at this point. That type of reputation takes years to overturn.

I wish Evander nothing but the best, and I hope he figures it out. Just not in TOR.
You wouldn’t like him crashing and banging and scoring and fighting for the Leafs, if it would help them win a round or, heaven forbid, two?

Exactly
Thai guys main fault is dealing with a ex wife that has serious mental issues
All the accusations starting to sound like she’s just trying to paint a picture for their separation and custody battle
All I care about is he’s a good hockey player, type of player we been desperately needing and could come at a huge discount
The custody battle has already been settled, evander has custody at the moment, which is extremely eye opening considering he was accused of abuse against his daughter as well.

On a 1yr deal at 1m-1.5m how can you not take him???????????

I changed my vote!

He's not going to be here long enough to ruin the locker room with all our character guys, and most of his reputation comes from outside the sport now really who he is in the dressing room (aside from the one time he wore a tracksuit to a meeting).

Bring him in and rotate him with Matthews and Kampf or even JT.

You can easily bury him if he doesn't work out.

What are people complaining about??

The worry about getting him before was trading Away assets for him and his long term contract and wasn't worth the risk even at 50% retained because of the term.... Contract is terminated so he's a rental now...

He's a HUGE upgrade and a perfect rental player. Great player and you don't have to keep the baggage.

I lost respect for him back in 2012 during the lockout when he posted a pic of him holding multiple “bricks” of cash on a balcony in Vegas. It was a total insult and disrespect to all the rink staff that were not getting paid during the lockout.
That pic showed his true character and 10 years later he is still the same disgrace
Even Don Cherry explained Kane was just having fun mocking something Mayweather did in an interview. Nothing to see here.

I am saying I think it would have an adverse effect. I think Kane is a very talented player. But I also know that SJ has gone to great lengths to give away Evander. Even to the point of finding just cause reasons to orchestrate a rightful termination of his contract. Think about how many bad things NHL'ers have done in their careers and their team go out of their way to try an cover it up. SJ was seemingly looking for a reason to terminate his deal. That's how bad they want him out of their organization. I think that should speak volumes.

Evander has been to the playoffs 2 times in his 13 years in the NHL. Maybe it's a coincidence, or maybe he has a negative effect on his team.

It's unfair for anyone, including myself to speculate what has happened in his past. Unfortunately his time in SJ and the reported discomfort some of his teammates had in his potential return was not an isolated incident. Nor is it 1 person that is putting his character into question like with the Karlsson and Hoffman incident. This is a negative pattern that unfortunately Evander is the common denominator in.

I hope he sorts out his personal issues as a human being, and I really hop the NHLPA has his back on that, I just don't think he can be trusted at the NHL level right now.

He would be a good fit hockey-wise, but I don't think the Leafs could deal with the potential distraction.

IMO, I'd rather Leafs pick up a mean, physical D Man as a counter weight to potentially dealing with him if he heads to an Eastern team.

If Ritchie ever woke up to his potential, he can be a Kane Light anyways.

He's a HUGE upgrade and a perfect rental player. Great player and you don't have to keep the baggage.

His baggage just got bought out by a club close to it. Every club he's been on has seen his baggage. Every team he's been on has determined what he brings to the ice isn't enough value to continue with him on the ice.

How much time does it take for a locker room to split, metastasize and incur irreparable harm? I don't know. No one knows to a certainty, but we do know is how to prevent it's entrance. That's what's in the club's control.

I believe in chances to begin again, but with where our club's at and what Kane has repeatedly affected...everywhere...that he's been, my chief complaint would be that our club found a way (yet again) to try and find different (oft failed) avenues to expedite success rather than stay the tried and true road that was built on players whose character is the polar opposite of Evander Kane.

I think every club who continued to give him the benefit of the doubt also said, you don't have to keep the baggage and ultimately fulfilled said manifest destiny by getting rid of him.

To my mind, there's nothing reasoned about the approach, nothing real to gain on our club that can't be met by a bottom six pick-up at the trade deadline. Our club can score. Our club got rid of what it believed to be a playoffs catalyst for loss in Kadri (I didn't agree, but...). So what do we need Kane for that we don't have or didn't have but deemed movable?

He's a huge upgrade? Is he? Was he? I don't think so. And let's -- again -- not fall into this one player puts us over the hump myth...Not unless the entire team is grinding they don't. And I don't think he makes enough a difference on the ice to obscure the monumentally negative difference he has always made off the ice.

That's where we need him...off...our...ice.

I mean Sheldon Keefe was involved with and defended a known sexual assaulter yet Dubas gave him a chance
I think you're speaking of David Frost, and your comparison is bizarre.

Sheldon Keefe was a teenager and a junior hockey player when he came under Frost's influence. As an adult, Keefe parted ways with Frost and established his own career starting with his very successful ownership and management of the Pembroke Lumber Kings. Keefe is a much respected and revered personality for this in Pembroke.

Evander Kane has a long pattern of poor character and bad behaviour as an adult that extends to the present day. One would think that presenting a fraudulent vaccination certificate would have been enough to terminate his contract with the Sharks, but once given yet another chance it didn't even slow him down. There's no break from his chronic misbehavior.

If you should have any trouble finding the differences between these men, then you're pretty much alone.

Have they even figured the buy-out yet ? last I heard the termination was being appealed by the PA and hinged on his vacation during the holidays and where he went and when he was supposed to report back to the Barracuda . I was under the impression there wasn't a clear path forward because a successful appeal would mean he was under 2 contracts if he was claimed .

I would put more money on Nick Ritchie fulfilling his potential than on Evander Kane mending his ways.

Which is to say, very little on Ritchie and absolutely nothing on Kane.

Doesn’t matter. It was disrespectful to all the people losing their income because of greedy players and owners.
He is nothing but trouble and I would have a tough time watching the Leafs if they stooped to signing him

If the price is right I think we do it. Have him on a real tight leash, which shouldn’t be hard with the Toronto media. He knows this will be his last shot and if he screws up he’s done, could be a great signing. Screw cancel culture I just want a Leafs cup

I mean you don't hear anything when Derek Roy tweeted his Ferrari, or Prust and Upshall posting their vacation with hashtag #LockoutProblems. Those people losing their income can't go on vacation and post tongue in cheek hashtags about it. Did you think anything about that when it happened or let it slide?

Seems unfair to pick on a 21 year old just having fun because of an interview he saw. If even Don Cherry doesn't think it was show boating (okay he's obviously show boating for his friends and peers -- I mean anything sinister towards people affected by the lockout) then I don't see why any one else would push it further.

Dreger said upto 20 teams are interested so not sure why you'd single out the Leafs as doing something wrong.

Yup
Everyone here just flipped on the guy
He hasn’t had a good past but it’s easy to accuse someone of anything
Everything suggests she indeed is mentally unstable
Video of him with gun was her posting after she lots custody (something courts forbid them of doing) and was part of a photo shoot they had with a unloaded gun “supposedly”
Anyways he’s no saint, great hockey player on the cheap…I wouldn’t hesitate

u prob had same reaction when they lost to mtl in the playoffs or all other heart wrenching defeats in the playoffs

It’s going to be very interesting to see how this works out for Edmonton……..should be fun

Any GM who signs this guy to an NHL deal should be shown the door. This guy has no place in the NHL.
