Its hard to answer this question without knowing all of the variables. At minimum I would have to believe in my locker room and get their blessings to justify a move like this.

Why would we ever want that train wreck of a human being in our dressing room

if he comes to play hockey and shut out everything else sure but let it be what it is his last chance

this wont be the kane got his life together tour. it will be either put up or shut up and ship out scenario where ever he goes and it better be at league min

The risk with signing Kane is will he upset the locker room chemistry right now. High risk high reward with him. If the Leafs can get him cheap I think they should do it. I understand why some don’t want to. Either way I’m happy with whatever decision they go with.

Yes. Remainder of this year only, 1 strike and you are out understanding (this does not include league discipline because he was trying to stick up for a team mate), able to get rid of Ritchie deal as part of the agreement. Amazing how people forget every year when the playoffs start and this team shrivels up like a prune when the intensity ratchets up and the refs swallow their whistle. This guy is exactly what this team needs, big, physical, tough, and skilled. Name 1 player on the roster that is big, physical, tough (heavyweight), and skilled. I'll wait. there are maybe 5 guys in the whole league with his too box.

Gambling issues, thats about 25% of the league. Family issues I think he was awarded custody of his daughter, and his estranged wifes accusations were proven to be false. Covid screw up yes big time f*** up that was stupid. He knows he is close to be done for good, helps Leafs go deep in the playoffs he will be able to get a good contract.

I'm sure he isn't the only train wreck of a human, he's just terrible at keeping it under wraps. There was a bunch of drama about Zaitsev a couple years ago and his wife involving their child, Markov apparently was traded years ago because of drug dealers or something, hell wasn't Gretzky involved in a gambling investigation? Then there is the Karlsson drama with Hoffman.... what about Richard's and Oxy, Kuznetsov video doing coke etc.

Without knowing all the details and also knowing that I certainly wouldn't want his drama on a long term contract (as I'm sure the rebuilding Sharks didn't want anymore either)...

I think it's too risky of a move for Dubas though.... if it fails he would take too much heat and acquiring Kane and disrupting a team at the top of standings could be a focal point by media, even if it isn't the cause of a playoff exit. Dubas had burned all his get out of jail free cards with Thornton, Foligno and Barrie not working out before.

I think it's a much safer career move for Dubas to not do it, even if he wanted to. If he was in Hollands position right now, yes I think Dubas would be highly considering pulling the trigger.

I thought stay away but not because on his on ice play .. he would really help bring more of what we need in top 6 role .. hitting, forecheck, speed, shot, mean and courage .. I could see him with Matty and Mitch and might be perfect fit really .. but don't like a guy who can't keep any relationships like with his wife .. also don't like da gambling side .. and rumours are he is self centered and not team focused .. hockey is a team game first and foremost and any adds must be team centric people .. when team mates don't want you around that is a bad sign ..

If he is willing to take under the buriable amount, awesome!

My issue is he plays a north south rush kind of game, where he usually does better with the puck on his stick.
On which line is he going to be the puck carrier if he is in the top 6?
You may get the most use out of him on a line with Kamf-Kase, but he hasnt put up the best defensive numbers. He is way too good (and would come to play) 4th line, although him and Simmonds on a line would be insanity during the playoffs.

I mean Sheldon Keefe was involved with and defended a known sexual assaulter yet Dubas gave him a chance

Based on what I've heard from people who were close to the situation Keefe did a lot more than that... To be fair though, it's hearsay and I generally believe in giving everyone a second chance provided that they earn it.

I lost respect for him back in 2012 during the lockout when he posted a pic of him holding multiple “bricks” of cash on a balcony in Vegas. It was a total insult and disrespect to all the rink staff that were not getting paid during the lockout.
That pic showed his true character and 10 years later he is still the same disgrace

I don't think it's that deep...

Hopefully Dubas swoops in and steals Kane from the Oilers. He's literally the missing piece to our offence assuming he chooses peace over problems.
100%! Kane would put the Leafs exactly where there need to be. Dubas better be all in on this.

If you somehow are able to trade Ritchie and it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg then you look to add Kane. It’s for 6 months and he is the type of player whom you could catch lightning in a bottle with. Not to mention he has size, grit and can score.

This is the kind of signing that divides a locker room before the player even steps foot in it.

Could and would fracture the best of teams.

I personally dont think the personalities and leadership types in this room are quite ready for a shift of that magnitude.

Report: 'Several' Sharks Players Don't Want Evander Kane Back Amid Betting Probe

it is extremely rare for a player to be ostracized by their team in the way Evander has in SJ. You can even date his reputation back to his time in WPG as well.

There is clearly a character issue with Evander that he needs to prove himself away from. I am a big fan of second chances, but he needs to start from the ground up at this point. It is a complete no from me.

I am actually shocked that there are so many reported takers TBH.

I recognize Evander is a good player, but my god when was the last time players on a team have come out and publicly mentioned they would not play with another member of the active roster? I literally can't think of 1 other time

Jumbo and Auston are boys, don't think for 1 second Auston hasn't heard some of the shit Evander must have pulled. Even Bogo likely keeps close ties with some of our players. I am sure almost everyone on the team has a negative connotation towards Evander at this point. That type of reputation takes years to overturn.

I wish Evander nothing but the best, and I hope he figures it out. Just not in TOR.
