I trying to not be surprised that this thread was made, but there is 0% chance our decision makers would ever bring this twit to our team, even if we had the cap space.

61 people on this discussion board who've never been a part of a team before?

Nope just 60. I never realized the extent of it. I changed my vote. I was only going on hockey talent. Hadn't heard even half the crap he's done. Thought it was minor stuff that the leaders on this team could knock out of him. I doubt he ever plays again really. One more team may give him one more chance but I don't know.

To those talking about Kane pointing a gun at his wife, give this a read.

I am highlighting a line from this article. I am not saying I think the Leafs should pick him up, but it pisses me off that everything his wife is saying is being taken as fact when he is proving it to be false.

According to Sharks insider A.J. Perez, Evander has been granted custodial parental-ship of their daughter, while his wife Anna undergoes psychological evaluation.

He has been granted custody of his daughter, a daughter his wife has accused him of abusing and neglecting.

I don't know that this team is mature enough to deal with a guy with that much baggage. The media alone would be problematic.

Whether or not he actually did all of the things he's been accused of, the fact remains that he was run out of multiple cities. Not what the Leafs need.
There really is no one in the Leaf organization that could handle Kane. Maybe Shanahan, because of NHLPA history and just player history. etc. Boston might work maybe with Bergeron and Marchand there as leaders. Rangers might work with Gallant as coach (but in NY, yikes). TB might work because of their leadership core, Vegas might work again because of their leadership core (but in Vegas, yikes!!! fox in the hen house). Hate to say it but TB, might be the best fit. Strong core, strong coach.

I think the Leafs should sign him and here's why:

1) I don't think we're good enough of a team right now to win the cup. If we add Kane and he plays well and doesn't cause any negative externalities, I think it makes us much more legit contenders.
2) We're super weak on LW. We will not be able to find another LW of his caliber for anywhere near the price we're getting (assuming 50% retained).
3) It's a gamble. He either might not play very well or he might cause problems in the locker room that makes the overall team worse. But, he also might be a legit first line LW who would compliment Matthews and Marner and make us a much better team... and there might be no negative impact on locker room dynamics. Kane - Matthews - Marner could be a real goal scoring machine and probably the top line in the NHL.
4) Is some of the stuff he's done or been accused of doing pretty shady? Yep. Doesn't sound like he's a good guy. But the only question we should be asking is: Does trading for him increase or decrease our chances of winning the cup? On the balance of probabilities, I think we have a better chance of winning the cup with him on the team.
Lot of ifs and maybes there. If this Leaf core was a few years older, maybe. But we just saw a tantrum from 16 yesterday after getting hit in a practice. I think the impact of a Kane on this room would be catastrophic

That is really too bad because he is a great hockey player. He is a legit top line LW.

he is/was and can still be one, just not here in Toronto

he's owed 7m for 3 seasons after this one and even if San Jose picked up half the tab it's still a 3.5m cap hit, it's a lot of money for a guy that can't seem to keep himself out of trouble even if his team supervises him 24/7.

The Leafs look like they might finally be on their way after all these years of one and done, why screw that up by bringing in somebody who's own team-mates time after time have voted him off the island. and hey what's up with players named Kane and maturity issues?

Dubas really needs to get Evander Kane. No more of this getting pushed around. Do it Dubas!

I read a tonne yesterday from his AHL teammates who all had nothing but positive things to say. Pro, worked hard etc.

Can he hold it together for 6 months tops?

The risk/reward is worth it. If he can get his act together, it is adding a big piece for next to nothing. If he doesn't, pint him out the door.

A few 4th line dregs don’t make a team tough. Toughness has to be on the ice to be effective.
Not true in all cases, but it's ideal if they can play higher in the lineup. Teams know what players are on the other bench, take a Reaves for example. It's pretty effective to have a player like that even playing limited minutes so other players know if they take liberties they are going to get punched in the face or have liberties taken against their team.

Just read about it too sire. The leafs are really in it just like the edmonton oilers is. He would play with mcdavid there and they want him hard also. Some other article or guy said the oilers are the most on it now and the leafs are real snoopy and close too.
Dubas should really do it. He makes the team better instantly.

Kane Matthews Marner

That top line looks awesome to me!

We might eat other teams people's noses off with those players and lineup sire.............. Hard.

Also Bunting with Tavares and Nylander would kill-a-lot also in the dirty second line. Giving us a foot massauge in the dirty third with Kerfoot - Some Other Tools - Some Other Tools. Our lineup would kill errrbody sire. Kase and other guys in the dirty third............................... mayne. Kane also a gangsta who comes cheap. He ain't taking no paper anymore sire. He be playing like.... 1.1 milj. That 100 thou would only be a small bonus for his servises.... like he in some real debth. Helping out his family and losing his wife and all.... mayne that sucka has been in trouble. Our other goons Clifford and Simmonds would happily advice the newcomer kane.

The hockey player would be a great fit, the person off-ice doesn't sound like he'd be a good fit.

Looks like all fingers pointing to the Oilers. Looks like the deal will be announced soon.

Exactly
Thai guys main fault is dealing with a ex wife that has serious mental issues
All the accusations starting to sound like she’s just trying to paint a picture for their separation and custody battle
All I care about is he’s a good hockey player, type of player we been desperately needing and could come at a huge discount

Hopefully Dubas swoops in and steals Kane from the Oilers. He's literally the missing piece to our offence assuming he chooses peace over problems.
