Should Chicago allow Bedard to play at the WJC?

The kid obviously needs some morale boost, and playing at a very popular and important in Canada tournament could be one. Especially given how bad Canadians failed last year. The tournament isn't long, 2 weeks at most, and Chicago is competing for another top draft pick so they don't need Bedard that badly anyway. I'm sure he needs positive emotions.

For the bad start he’s he’s had, his production isn’t a disaster; .7PPG is still well in front of recent draft picks like Slafkovksy, Lafrenière and Hughes at 19 years old. Sure, it’s not inline with McDavid and Crosby. But he does look much less impactful than last year and even the first 5 games of this year.


All that to say, no, the WJC would not be useful for him, figuring out how to play away from the puck and continuing to develop at the NHL level is probably more important

It's just for a couple weeks. And figuring out those things with positive emotions is better than with negative ones...

Like I mentioned elsewhere....

Bedard has 15 points. The next highest point total on the Blackhawks is Ryan Donato with 11 - and Donato's highest point total was 31 in 2021.

What is the point playing with such garbage?

Having said that, the kid is NOT going to give up Christmas with his family to play in a tournament he already dominated.... TWICE!

Maybe on the NHL video game this happens lol. Absolutely not in real life. Wake up people he didn’t even play last year. Why would he play this year?
 
Nah, If I had my pick I'd prefer Celebrini (even though Bedard is the better player) play the WJs this year. But there's hope both Bedard and Celebrini will be paying in May at the World Championships.

Bedard has huge issues with sloppy plays, losing pucks easily and killing his lines plays, when he tries to toe drag 6'5 d-men with perfect stick positioning.

Going to juniors, playing with 50% effort and scoring 10 goals per game isn't the right medicine for his situation i'd say. Scoring isn't his problem, getting to scoring position is.

No Chicago shouldn't. The team should probably instill a sense of consistency in terms of who play with Bedard and work on getting him acclimated to scoring in the NHL. We know he can torch players at the WJC level, maybe he gets a little boost mentally from being a dominant player again but I'd guess it's more likely he's a bit embarrassed to be back.

Chicago should have released Korchinski last year. Buffalo should have released Benson last year and should probably do the same this year.
 
I fully get this sentiment. A young guy is struggling and a junior tournament is a confidence boost. But, there are a couple major differences to the usual example;
First, he’s an extra year removed from junior than the guys that usually get sent back, and secondly, when he was there last time he absolutely crushed. Not really anything to improve on.

Having said all that, I’m looking for another Canadian gold so ultimately my answer is HELL YEAH! :laugh:

PS- Bring Celebrini, too.

Chitown basically lost a 3rd overall pick in Dach because they loaned him to team Canada & he broke his wrist. Hence why Korchinski didn’t go last year as well.

Besides the obvious reasons why you don’t send Bedard to the wjc. Chitown would never consider it because of the risk involved.
 
f*** no. He is as good a NHL teenager as you can have. From a distance, it seems like he has some maturing to do which is totally normal for a teenager playing in the NHL. He'll be a 100 point scorer NEXT year IMO.

This seems like hyperbole.
 
No.. it's an extended slump. Hopefully he can break out of it. Playing in a tournament he destroyed two years ago isn't what he needs to play his way out of it.

It could be a regular occurrence for them and make watching team Canada at the worlds worth watching.
