Which league is harder to play in and put up points in?

If a prospect puts up 0.5PPG in Liiga, how does that compare to a prospect who puts up 0.5PPG in the SHL?

SHL is probably a higher skill level,(better then AHL ?)however it is less physical and has bigger rinks ?

The Liga is still very good, (AHL ?) but also has smaller rinks ? And is more physical as people have said.

I'm pretty sure the SHL is 3rd best hockey league in the world.

NHL
KHL
SHL
AHL?

Average goals per game:

2014-15 SHL: 5.11
2014-15 Liiga: 4.99

2013-14 SHL (Elitserien?): 5.28
2013-14 Liiga: 4.93

That being said, it's still a little bit harder for a prospect to put up 0.5PPG in the SHL.

Don't have a lot of experience with European leagues, but I would imagine it goes somewhat like this (with Champions League excluded for obvious reasons).

NHL
KHL
SHL
SM-Liga
NLA
AHL
DEL
Czech Extraliga
Slovak Extraliga
ECHL
EBEL
Norwegian
Danish
French
British

Not sure where relegation leagues would fit in

I would put Liiga and NLA on the same tier.

The NLA teams can certainly afford to pay big dollars to their top guys, but look at for example the final standings of the CHL. Four Finnish teams and four Swedish teams in the quarterfinals. Zero from Switzerland. I will be the first to admit that the CHL success should be taken with a grain of salt, but it's the best indicator we have right now.

No matter what league is better you cant compare them to determine what prospects numbers means the most.

You need to watch each player and their specific situation with their team/s (a bit obvious but wanted to correct a low-watermark threadstart).

FEL and SHL are not what they once were because all the best european players are in the KHL. They are still comfortable better than AHL. I think it's harder to score in FEL but you can't compare two players like that. It's more about what team they would play for and how much ice time. NLA is pretty bad league outside of top2 teams.

AHL needs to be ranked higher in those standings. Factor in the AHL has far more teams, if they had less teams the league would be quite stacked.

That could be said about any league. If FEL had 6 teams the talent level would be higher, magic!

Well, the SHL compensated by allowing an unlimited amount of NA players in the league. Also, the 87-96 Swedish age groups are very, very deep compared to previous years. They are already, or will soon be in their prime.

Harder to play in would depend on the player. Liiga is a bit more physical just because the rinks tend to be smaller. SHL is more skilled. It's rare for prospects to put up huge numbers in either league though.

I actually don't know of any limits on foreign players in liiga. Might be wrong though.

My post is meant to show that A) I think the AHL is already a better league than both in the OP and B) If the AHL had less teams people would see how good it really is.

But it doesn't have less teams. You could say the same thing about every league.

SHL has better depth. Allsvenskan(swe tier 2 league) top teams are on par if not better teams than FEL bottom/mid tier teams. FEL top teams are on par with SHL top teams. SHL is better league no doubt about that. Game is faster and more physical in FEL but there is more skill and control in SHL.

It's a matter of taste - as a whole SHL has a touch more skill, but larger rinks and worse goalies. You won't get a straight answer as to which is better - it's like two rookies in CHL with the same 0.5 ppg, the other on the best team the other on the worst.
You can assume one is better than the other, but it's all subjective.

It's easier for a prospect to put up points in the Liiga.

For example Artturi Lehkonen had 30 points in his draft year. He went in the second round. If somebody put up 30 points in the SHL, he would be considered a top 10 pick.
