The rink ..too often
Always done the shins first, then skates, but have noticed others doing it the other way around.

Have struggled sometimes to get the lacing/fit in hockey gear that I get when just skating; and tried skates first the other day. Got the skates right, but the rest was annoyingly awkward trying to then get the shins and socks right, etc.

I always put on the skates first as I don't like to tuck my shins into them. To make the socks thing less awkward, I put on my jock short first, attach the socks and roll them up. Then pants and skates, and finally shins. Roll the socks down over the shins and that's it.

Yeah, the socks were a major hassle. That makes sense.

I've got elastic sleeves to go over the shins too, just to complicate it a little further. No sock tape required though.

Shorts>shins>socks>skates without tying knot>chest/elbows/jersey>finish skate knot

I do a kinda two-stage skate tie cos I like to wiggle my feet and make sure they're kinda right in my skates before finally tying the knot.

I know what you mean tho - I'm always so much more comfortable in my skates at a public session than when I have hockey gear on.

I've wondered lately tho if it's less to do with what I'm wearing and more to do with the fact I end up standing around during/between hockey drills early on in sessions or doing short quick stops and starts that make my feet ache/numb. When just skating I tend to be skating more freely, less jerky short movements etc

I do socks first, and roll them up. Then skates, and I roll the socks back down over my skates. Finish with shins and pull the socks back over them. Sock tape them, and then good to go.

Socks (leave them down), skates, shins, pull socks up to the velcro, pants (leave skate guards on while pulling pants up)

I just find it easier to tighten my skates without the pants and shins in the way.

Socks
Shell (for girdle)
Put on and tie skates, take a walk, adjust skates
Pull socks down over skate ankles
Install shins over skates; pull up socks over shins and attach to Velcro
Pull down shell
Wrap and adjust NXG girdle; pull up shell
Then the rest (stick is taped at home)

We should have a Getting Ready sticky :D

Hockey Socks on first.

Skates on next.

Shin Guards on next (tucked into socks; over skate tongues).

Pants on after that.

Then the rest of the top-of-the-body gear.

Skates on first, then shins over the tongue of the skate.

Same. I accomplish this as a player by putting on my jock, then socks (without pulling them up), skates, shins over the tongue of my skates, then I pull the socks up and tape them. My pants are large enough to be put on with my shins, socks, and skates already on.

As a referee I manage it by putting on my black pants first, then skates, and pulling my pant legs above the knee to put on my shins.

Jock shorts>Shins>Socks>Pants>Skates.

For those finding issues with shins then skates, consider dropping an inch on the shin size and see how it feels. I recently just went up from a 14" to a 15" by accident (grabbed a new pair on sale, thought it felt nice on shoes, took it home but couldn't get back to the store to exchange by the time I got around to actually skating out again) and definitely feel like the shins are interfering with the tongue of my skate now.
