He turns 29 in Dec. There's 10 goalies in the NHL age 34 or older and only 3 of them are still a proven starter worth having. Nobody wants to lose a goalie over 1 year, but they should do everything possible to not go the full 8 years.

also, is MON not interested?
Considering where Montreal is right now with their rebuild - not even close to a playoff team yet - they probably don't want to go after an elite goalie who will be 30 soon. They seem reasonably happy with Montembeault as their guy for the next 2 years, and they have kids like Primeau and Fowler that they're comfortable waiting to see how they turn out.

That is a reasonable assessment of conventional wisdom.

Howev, if they gave Rs a choice of primeau/fowler as a throw in, and were willing to fork over same top dollar as everyone else in currency desirable to Rs, such an offer would have to be entertained.

I suspect it boils down to how far away are their prospects.
But I don't have enough knowledge of that to project further

imo we should not be giving this guy the bum's rush out the door; that said, if Garand is not even as good as or better, but is sufficiently good enough quickly enough, it pays for Rs to move him now --- but only for top $ reflecting his elite Vez status.

Competitive bids from all of the above should drive up price...

also, is MON not interested?

Why would Montreal be interested? He doesn't fit their timetable, Montreal already has an average starter and they have good goalie prospects.

whether or not MON would want to pay -- b'c it won't be cheap to anybody -- is another story

but prime Shesty would instantly get any pretender close to if not actual contender, and any contender to legit cup finalist

It depends on how far all your prospects are from arriving, I'd guess

deserves + will get he 90 over 8 = 11.25 per on top of the existing 5.6 insane bargain

But he will be told not for nothing, giving you $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ of Dolan's dough is not the prob, it is cap.
We are gonna move Panarin, Trouba, + Lindgren soon to get cap.
We can extend you, but not keep you full duration of the deal

So go west, young man, to LA:
Shesty
pld dumped on ny at full 50% retained
Othmann

for

Byfield

Major wince for Ks, but it is a win win short + long term for both
both teams move depth to address need

Rs can actually consider this b'c have
- world's best G coach, allaire
- Garand = high end netminder prospect just below top tier
- Quick w/help from Domingue holds fort as he gets broken in
There is no way you're still going down this road. The Kings want nothing to do with any trade you think about proposing. It's starting to get at troll levels of outlandish. Which says a lot. In this deal you want the Kings to pay Shesty $11m + retain on PLD for over $4m for Byfield? What kind of lunacy is that! A trade where LA takes on 15m for a goalie and a prospect for a young #1/2C and dropping PLD. LA keeps both and laughs you off the phone

Shersterkin is a year from free agency and has trade protection. No sane individual would think that a rebuilding team is going to acquire a player like that in that position or assume that a player would want to sign long term.

Shesterkin has a market, but it doesn't include Montreal.

watch it with the mud slinging...

now, bottom line is this:
pld = nightmare, you want to move him, you retain and add value. PERIOD

Also, Shesty is not "a goalie" except in the most minimal, literal sense.
He's a fuggin elite Vez quality guy, arguably best one period
And you are getting him 5+ for his final upcoming season
Any big # is extended after that.

So Rs ONLY interested in Byfield and HALF of pld
otherwise
forget it

Perfect! Because LA isn't going after him! LA will stick with PLD (management has already stated they aren't buying him out or retaining on him) and the young Byfield before giving a goalie 15m (with extension and PLD retention). So please for love of everyone one on this site, stop with the insane proposals.

You tell everyone on here that if they don't like your proposal than they can forget it, but the person that needs to move on from them is you! 95% of people on this site can understand that deals like what you propose would never even be thought of even in NHL24 and can realistically talk things out.

[If I take a ban than so be it but it had to be said]

He’s the best goalie in the league and the Rangers best player. Unfortunately for the Rangers and that show he put on carrying the team this playoffs they may need to overpay him.
