Some players can thrive with stars even tho they aren't stars themselves, other players are bewildered when they play with stars because they don't understand the game or how to benefit playing with stars.

I figure Engvall and Mikeyev could be perfect linemates without Kampf , they can be useful and even productive together, they aren't stars and probably wouldn't benefit from playing with AM, MM, JT or WN, they're outstanding 3rd line players and fine PKers.

Kampf with Spezza and Simmonds makes more sense because Kampf's IQ is 4th line quality and he also is well suited to PKing.

I'd like to see:

Kerfoot/AM/WN
Kase/JT/MM
Bunting/Engvall/Mikeyev
Simmonds/Kampf/Simmonds
I wouldn't pay Simmonds $1.8 mil

You can't make a decision based on 1 game but they certainly didn't last night.

Last night was ALL PP, 5 on 5 the "balanced attack" got outscored 3-0

Another terrible take

Yes because the PP went 3 for 4.

5 on 5 they were outscored 3-0

That's not up for debate that's a fact.

That means the lines didn't work last night but the PP did.
No no, no!

Expected goals are more important than real goals, since they are what win games.

You guys are whack if you think those lines didn't work yesterday. We smoked em 5v5 some crap goals against and Hasek like goaltending doesn't mean we were bad.

Also I'd love to get a strong offensive player like a jt Miller to play with willy on the third line and have Spezza centering that line for every o zone start.

I don't know how the hell they do it, but Kase is a 40-50 point player when healthy on our 3rd line + 2nd PP. It's like Kampf/Kase were born to play together. You just watch those two and it's the definition of chemistry. So many angles where I hate these new lines.

For the above comment, there's maybe like 4-5 of us who have been complaining about these new lines. Notice how none of us made a claim that the team would suck or do bad with them. So...please just shutup with the over-reacting and improve your reading comprehension.

I find it fascinating that you guys are so sure that these lines won't work that you don't even want to see us try them.

I assume that you know that Kaše and Kämpf played together their whole life on the same line at all levels and have been best friends since they were kids.

As for the lines if someone can actually tell me what they were that would be great. The original lines were quickly and continually messed up sometimes with 2 right wingers, M&M not playing together other than the PP and then magically putting them together for OT, Spezza got a grand total of 7 minutes, the "top line" wingers Bunting and Kase got 15 minutes, etc etc. What a mess but it was expected. That was a poorly coached game for the Leafs.

The lines should be:
x Matthews Marner
x Tavares Nylander
x Kämpf Kaše
x Spezza x

Thought the new look lines looked awesome last night, and our play fell off after going back to old lines trying to spark offence.

Gibson and Gibson alone is the reason we were outscored 3-0 at even strength. It had nothing at all to do with the lines not working.

Gibson was a wall, Campbell let in softies. The ducks barely touched the puck the first 2 periods.

Based on their most dominant period this year and how I think it should go:

Bunting - Matthews - Marner: 67.87 xGF% this year
Mikheyev - Tavares - Nylander: 67.56 xGF% in super limited minutes but I'd like to see more of this + it gives Mikheyev his top 6 shot. Just x - Tavares - Nylander have a 59.35 xGF%.
Kerfoot - Kämpf - Kaše: 47.26% xGF% this year (on 9.52 percent Ozone faceoff starts and near 60% goal differential. Near perfect shutdown line during our best stretch of hockey.)
Engvall - Spezza - Simmonds: 65.33 xGF% this year

Ritchie - trade fodder

I'd like to see them roll with these lines up to the all-star break. I thought they were a little clunky as some of the familiarization was not there, but I didn't think there was any sort of liability either. The goals against were all from lazy or dumb plays and not representative of a line breakdown. 1st one was dumb (luck) from Engvall and Spezza. 2nd one was an unaware PP line. 3rd one was a soft play by a defenceman in front of the net.

I thought as the game wore on, the lines started to gel more and more. I also liked the injection of some minutes for guys like Nylander' would like to see Kase play more. I say, roll with'em for another three games.

I don’t mind spreading it thin at all. Different matchups should generate different line combinations and if Matthews and Nylander can anchor their own lines with support cast we are all the stronger for it. I did see that they’re still reluctant to let Marner franchise his own line though. I still find that to be a little disappointing.

Marner is such a pass first player that you can't put him on a line without a real finisher.

I thought Matthews was trying to do too much on his own last night.

I find it rather ironic that you said improve your reading comprehension and then made a comment that suggests i insinuated with my comment that you said the team would suck or do bad with them. I didn't. But you would know that if you didn't overreact and improved your reading comprehension. Irony thy name is havoc. Smh.

Gotta love that fourth line. Can't get enough Simmer!

Typo, I'm sure.

Also on the 3rd, God love him but Jack has to have that and not a trapper full of air.

I like Kampf with Nylander. Not worried about points at all from Kampf. He has a job to do and he does it better than most in the league. Win a defensive zone faceoff. Get it out of the defensive zone. Get the puck deep. Forecheck hard. Keep the puck in the offensive zone. And get it back if it's turned over. Let Nylander worry about the points.

I would change Kase and Kerfoot though. I think Nylander needs another scorer on his line. Also Kampf and Kase just work well together. Matthews needs a pass first guy and that should be Kerfoot.

Well, he has been our hottest goal scorer lately so it might be good to just foster more all around contribution, more versatility in play styles etc.

Its interesting that Keefe switches the lines to attempt to increase 5v5 even strength scoring and balance and then all lines fire blanks with all goals coming on PP or SO.
