At first gag, it seemed a bit of shocker as I think he bears most of the blame for the payoff chokes but none of the leadership team will survive another fail no matter how many years on his deal. I think he might potentially make better decisions knowing he isn't out of an income so I've nothing against the extension Its okay for athletes to sometimes feel some extra pressure but coaches succeed by sound decision making, not really extra effort. I am not a coach but I found some of Keefe's deployment decisions flawed. If he can learn from his mistakes he will do better. Earn it Sheldon.

Yea, he's deserved it.

Team D(xGA/60) numbers since start of 2017 season:

17-18 (Babs): #24
18-19 (Babs): #25
19-20 (Babs): #28
19-20 (Keefe): #15
20-21 (Keefe): #10

Playoffs:
17-18 (Babs): #12 (out of 16)
18-19 (Babs): #15 (out of 16)
19-20 (Keefe): #11 (out of 24)
20-21 (Keefe): #1 (out of 16)

When it comes to coaching the team to have an advantage in shots, scoring chances, etc.., Keefe has been great, just need the players to perform especially our goaltending in the playoffs (like we've been facing really). The weird subjective opinions that he's been outcoached are kinda nutty but go along with the old narrative "show me a good coach and Ill show you a good goalie". I highly doubt Torts or Ducharme was happy his team got badly outplayed compared to their regular season play and saved by goaltending differentials

Isn’t it something, the incredibly inspiring speech, the soaring music, a flood of emotion, and then they go out a drop a deuce on the ice. Man that video is seriously the Leafs in a nutshell right there. What a moment alright, that’s what you’re remembered for.

I’m still frustrated by the loss as much as anyone, but get real man. Calling it dropping a deuce is a huge exaggeration. They needed to convert, and yeah they failed, but they outshot Montreal 11-1 in that overtime and clearly were the better team. Doesn’t mean f*** all in the end, I get that, but let’s not make it out as something worse than it was.

All I can hope is that he learned from last season and starts matching lines and switching up lines when things get played out or stale

5 playoff wins, 7 playoff losses, and a .417 win% for the playoffs.

Hopefully, he learns he isn't coaching a random suprise wildcard team with no expectations and can deliver some results.

His terrible coaching come playoffs and stubbornness could cost the leafs a 3rd straight series and dubas his job

Keefe playoff series record:

0 wins, 2 losses

Now do the playoffs.

Trots won a cup as a “lame duck coach” then walked away .
He did but that was only after the Caps refused to meet his price. Stupid move by the Caps, and stupider not to extend him earlier when it probably would have cost them less.

---

I find this mostly irrelevant since it doesn't affect the cap and Keefe can be fired at any time. HOWEVER this ties in to my internationally copyrighted theory that management, coaching and the core-4 are guaranteed to be here through the 22-23 season. Spring of 23 is when Matthews and Nylander are about to go into the last year of their contracts, and MLSE will have to decide if they want current management to handle negotiations. If there is a housecleaning, MLSE will look a bit less heartless with Keefe getting paid to sit home for an extra year.

There will be hot takes in here but he’s a good, underrated coach. I know we’re all angry about the playoffs but he’s not responsible for five series losses.

I’ll take the fantastic regular season performance and the vastly improved defense over a handful of bad playoff games.

you think HF Boards’ Leaf fans “under rate” him?

wow

I'm not a huge numbers guy but the last 2 seasons the leafs faced some garbage offensive team's with a much stronger roster than anything Babs had, especially on D so does he deserve the credit for the improved numbers?
He seems like a very stubborn coach who doesn't do much actual coaching in regards to in game adjustments. He also seems like a dick who throws players under the bus in interviews I've seen

Honestly, if the Leafs struggle out of the gate or miss the playoffs or another 1st round exit, do you think Keefe’s job is safe? Probably not.
Does it matter how many years are left in Keefe’s contract?
