They overcame a bad 1st period, played well, and won. If they were completely done with Keefe, chances are we would have lost something like 5-2.
The team isnt hungry in the playoffs when its time to clinch, thats not on Keefe. Keefe better tip toe around Marner or Matthews, they are making 15 million US and Keefe probably makes 2 million. Keefe has no power to cross the line in any small way, or they will check out and he will be fired 5 or 10 games later after a losing streak. He learned that this week with the elite players comment. If the players dont like this, they can get him fired....they might even warn him about the fact they control Keefe's job security. If a coach needs to motivate his players to play hard 5 games in it is a reflection on the players and not the coach.
They are grown men you know...

That's not what I see and any good GM could negotiate with Mathews. Dubas wins something this year or gets fired.I don't see Dubas getting fired tbh, Dubas' saving grace is he has a relationship with Matthews camp. That is about as valuable as it gets. The last thing they want is a new GM coming in to try and negotiate that contract. So I think Dubas will ultimately get a 2 year extension. 1 year to get Matthews signed, 1 year to do something with team with all the cap space they have coming and thats essentially it.
Sounds like a cancerous situation.Trade one.
100%.Couldn't agree more. I saw nothing insightful coming from him for the entire series.
I found that "inspirational" speech before the Game 6 OT against the Habs to a group of professional athletes to be embarrassing.
Yeah good question. Other than all the game 7's where we just folded, that is probably the most embarrassing thing that's happened to the team with this core.100%.
He should have been fired after the Habs series. He was badly outcoached in that series. How the heck was the dreadful power play not addressed for months?
What's interesting about all this bizarre drama is that the only thing to critique about what Keefe said - not a lot of class disparaging a shitty team for no real reason - has been forgotten.
We'll see what the Yotes thought about that comment next game. Hockey has a strange karma to it with these types of things.
It’s 5 games into the season and we are just months removed from the best regular season in club history.
Some people need to relax
Who gives a rat's ass about the regular season? They cannot win in playoffs and those are all that matter.
His job is on the line nightly bro. He walked it back out of trying to keep the room on his side.Is there a reason why Keefe walked back his comments on his star players performing? Is this a sign that guys like Matthews and Marner have their grip on him or was that a nothingburger? Genuinely interested what you die-hard Leafs fans think. I've also been struggling to really appreciate Woody this season and feel like he's been terrible at preparing the team to start on time every game. Part of me also feels like he's not as firm as he should be, too.
Trade Marner... they guy is beyond useless. If he had good wheels, maybe he'd be a legit star or if he had an excellent shot maybe he'd be a legit star. His hunched over, Connor Brown skating and his weak shot is painful to see from a "11 million" dollar player. His entire role on this team is skate to the perimeter of the offensive zone, stand absolutely still and wait for the puck and then play quarterback looking to pass the puck. Same s$&* that becomes even more unsuccessful come playoff time when things tighten up. Jeez he sucks for 11 million. We need his space to balance out the roster.
And he doesn’t know how to separate them even for just a few games to try and shake things up and get guys going unfortunately…What are some things Sheldon Keefe does well? He's basically the guy who decided to give the internet what it wanted by sticking Matthews and Marner together.
