Shea Weber's final stand in 2021: Torn meniscus, busted ankle, torn thumb tendons, and a groin tear.

The guy was an absolute warrior and left it ALL on the table to try to win it for himself, Carey Price and co. He knew that run was his final stand. They obviously fell short, but you have to respect his toughness and leadership. Pretty incredible way to go out.

Respect. The groin and ankle would be the toughest.

The 2021 Habs are generally looked down upon but that was an incredible run to witness. I remember TSN or someone had their panel predictions before each round and it was something like 17/18 picked the Leafs, 18/18 picked the Jets, and 18/18 picked VGK. Never seen anything like that.

Bitter, loudmouth Habs fans flooded the Weber discourse so foully over the last 8 years you’d almost think he was underrated. He isn’t, of course. The sane have always known that he is one of the greatest defenders in hockey history. Combined with the clapper and keen hockey sense he was a great pleasure to watch.

EDIT: and the cross-checks. My lawd the cross-checks

I don't know how he held a stick either.

Never made sense to me. You should get even more respect as a less talented team making it that far into the playoffs.

There's just a lot of jealous fans that don't like it when an underdog make it far and it's not their team. ;)

Thank you to Weber for giving us Habs fans the chance to hope that year.

I feel like there’s an answer, but it’s not a totally happy one. Ask the team doc about it.
It’s just funny to think of the people who complain “but he played with a broken finger?!?!?” When these are the true injury lists that impact overall production for a player.

I never really got why he wasn't as celebrated by the Hab's compared to Price and others. He was a beast of a defenseman and a truly great captain.

One of my most favorite players of all time. Shea Web was an absolute warrior. He exemplifies the meaning of being a leader. Would of loved to see him get a cup ring.

He’s a class act off the ice also, I get to golf with him and Cody Franson every summer. He does a lot of work with kids in Sicamous, you’ll see him out playing street hockey with them.

Here
Both Weber and Byron never played another game in the NHL, and Price played a couple of farewell games at the end of the next season. All three knew that it was it after the injuries sustained in those playoffs. They were running on adrenaline and hope all those playoffs. Those three are not given enough praise for the high level of play they showed considering how absolutely done they were. All three can’t even play hockey with their kids unless they don’t push themselves, true story.

That was the great last hourrah by a HOF worthy giant defenseman. He was great in Montreal, and I can only imagine how good he was for the Preds at his peak. His Team Canada gold medals were insanely good showings and cemented his status. I am honored to say that I was able to cheer this player as the captain of my favorite team.

Forgive my ignorance, but was there essentially zero chance he would play again, even if he took a year off?

Kypreos tweeted a couple seasons earlier that his career was in danger but nobody really believed him.

Weber was in rough shape for a long time, as it turns out.
