Looks like Dickinson makes the Canadian WJC roster. Schaefer, Martone, and McKenna as well. Sennecke and Parekh end up cut.

@The Nemesis Are you making a WJC thread this year? We may only have Dickinson and Halttunen going.

Probably. We've got time still so I'm going to wait for as many roster confirmations as I can (so that I can also try and wrap up as much pre-christmas stuff around here as I can without distraction as well)

I swear we go through this every year. The WJC is a 19 year old tournament. Canada hates taking more than two dedicated scoring lines.

But who knows, maybe we can convince Anaheim to trade us Sennecke for Brandon Svoboda.
Jake Furlong was on Team Canada.

I will say it will be interesting to see how the 2024 1st round defenseman end up over their careers

Those guys got mock drafted in all sorts of different orders

Dickinson looks like a steal now but we shall see! Lots of hockey for them all to play still (Obviously I'm hoping for him to be the best 😂)

Which makes it even more embarrassing that Sennecke, Yakembust and Parekh lost their spots to 16 year old McKenna, 17 year old Schaefer and 18 year old Martone.
I don't get it. Parekh and Yakemchuk aren't even on teams that we really care about. Neither are anywhere close to being busts, Yak looked pretty great in camp and I haven't been paying attention to Parekh but as a slight kid he's going to need a lot of years to be ready for the NHL and before we can evaluate him (and I didn't even like him that much).

Why do you care about these players still, enough to make up bust nicknames for them and claim that a single tournament decision has any bearing on their future careers? I hope Sennecke is a bust but there's no way his missing out on WJC means he's definitely a bust, nor do I even really care.

They clearly decided to go with LD superiority and hard to see how Parekh and e.g. Dick or Schaefer would pair well together. It doesn't mean Dick is guaranteed to be better than those players when it matters in 3-10 years. I sure as shit hope it does but why take such a strong stance on something that doesn't indicate much?

I am an equal opportunity hater. I enjoy watching every team that isn't the Sharks fail and their fanbases suffer. As we hopefully enter a contention window it is also objectively beneficial to the Sharks for potential star prospects on other teams to fizzle out.

Also you really don't think Yakemchuk, who turned 19 before the season started but is producing at basically the same clip as his draft year and wasn't even invited to WJC camp, is close to being a bust? If we had drafted him I would be starting to get very concerned.

Yakembust is literally in his final year of WJC eligibility. Which makes the "it's a 19 year old tournament" excuse even more irrelevant.

Every time someone writes a cheesy nickname for a player or coach to insult them, a part of me dies. It’s, as the kids say, cringe. And not the lovable cringe of the holiday video.

They’re real busts as posts go. Pusts if you will.

He did look decent in the preseason so the potential is there - which I know that doesn't necessarily mean anything but I'd rather have that than struggling at the next step

Not sure why you’re excluding the Sharks. You trash the majority of their prospects and players.
