Seth Jones with one of the worst giveaways I’ve seen

Some of what he said was true, yes, but he's also given some shit answers in the past. Though I don't feel like searching old threads to find some of those quotes.

His play was a big issue though. He did not look like he cared for most of the last two years, and was routinely out played by guys making a fraction of his salary. Only when he went and asked to be moved did it look like he was giving a crap. He was phoning it in otherwise.

Nick Foligno alluded to him being a problem for the Hawks saying this:

"There’s a cohesiveness with the group," Foligno said. "We’ve gotten rid of some distractions, so to speak, and now there’s a group that’s trying to get better.

"Sometimes when you make hard decisions, they end up benefiting the group, and you’re seeing that."

Only sizeable name the Hawks moved around the time Foligno made this comment was Jones. Seth straight up wanted out and was public about it too. Was a huge issue for the Hawks this season.
Nick Foligno, Future GM out here making the tough calls.

Maybe I'm a tad unreasonable right now but like... good players who can walk the walk and are getting buried on a bad team do have reasons to be irritable. It's their one and only career and "good soldier on garbage teams" only gets you so far, it's allowed to be upset and want something better.

I don't necessarily disagree with you, however I will say that Seth Jones made his displeasure with the team known, known enough that you sort of had to trade him, and then he was reportedly only willing to waive for two teams, one of which (Dallas) had no interest in him. It's not like his contract is an easy one to move.

A lot of Hawks fans disdain for him comes, not from him wanting out, but him being so vocal about it and then only being willing to go to two organizations. Hawks made out like bandits considering what they were up against trying to trade him. Worked well enough for him, though.

I mean... that's okay? He signed that contract with an entirely different team unless I'm mistaken and while, yeah, his terms are that he has to stand by it no matter where he goes... he can still be bothered by being in an organization that is absolutely not competitive at the time.

We can talk about various protections but if you feel like you have something to give and don't want to end up a locally revered "willing soldier" who ultimately didn't really do shit, that's okay. You only have the one career. He wanted to play meaningful hockey and the team didn't have that in the cards any time soon, it is what it is.

He was absolutely within his rights. And Hawks fans are within our rights to dislike the guy (most hated the deal to bring him here the second it was announced).

But he's got a cup out of it. Hopefully we've got our future starter (Knight) out of it.

It's 100% okay to be mad as a fan of the team, but I think we can all collectively recognize that he wasn't 100% wrong to want out either. Hate to lean on fresh hindsight but it really is true, he had something to offer to a team that wasn't toiling.

I’m happy for Seth. I think he was a little questionable in a leadership role when things got challenging, but he is a great talent, and good person/teammate overall I think.

In the end, he left a lot of Blackhawks fans hoping for more effort and leadership, and accountability. There were plenty of times he showed that too earlier, but it seemed to wane as time went by.

The losing got to him. He was bad for the team and ended up having a bad attitude. Not much of a surprise he turned out to be a solid contributor on a good team with his talent.

Jones is great when he's playing 2nd line minutes at max. He could turn it around lol!

He's a great piece to have on a great team .

If you expect him to carry your D core he will let you down. But the tools are all there to be a contributing piece on a cup winner as we just saw.

Still shows those flashes of what he was hoped to be (gm 7 leafs) , but mainly he's "just" a good player with flaws that can be masked if you have the roster for it.

Congratulations to him , cup champ for life

Remember when Seth Jones was a locker room cancer and it was all his fault the Hawks were losing so much?

The Cats not only had to give up a back up goalie, a late first round pick, but they also have the Hawks paying some of his salary for the next few years while he's winning Cups.

Unlike many, never really had an issue with Jones. He wanted to be here and came here as part of a busy offseason (Bowman’s last hurrah) under the pretenses of wanting to compete. Pretty big misread on his part but as fans I think we underestimate that while we may “objectively” be thinking along the lines of “Hawks added Jones, uhhh ok” someone like that is probably thinking more like “they added me, that alone is worth a lot”. Then the Hawks started 1-9-2 and the only logical choice (with a new GM) was to blow it all up and go the route of the multi-year tank.

Player like Jones can understand that and understand he's responsible for his own decision on signing an 8-year extension and still not be overly thrilled with it. Also don't think Jones played as bad as he was scapegoated. A bit inconsistent, occasional lapses, but understandable when you're playing Tank Hockey. Don't think his attitude was that bad. Played 259 games without making much of a fuss. Probably hit a point this year where he was like "oh damn, I'm already 30" and not wanting to play out the remainder of his career in a slow rebuild situation. It was best for both parties to move on, as Jones would likely be aging out as a top pair/top 4 defensemen as enough younger guys turn the corner. He was self aware that his contract made him harder to move (overpaid), and while we don't know the exact list, seemed generally willing to waive the NMC (that he earned) for a good number of options.

Ultimately, Hawks got out at a good time, as many years left with a $9.5 million 30-something defenseman could be quite problematic. They got a 1st (we don't know what pick it'll be, it's not the 2025 first, we know it'll be a playoff spot, other than that, we'll see) and a young goalie who has Number 1 potential, while the bit of retention is not too big of a deal for them in the short or probably even medium term (as cap rises). Jones got to a great situation and proved all of the haters wrong with great play in big minutes throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Congrats to Jones on the Stanley Cup! Well deserved.

He was fantastic. So good the Panthers can let Ekblad walk.
They should let Ekblad walk probably and try to replace him with a more offensive d to run the first PP unit. Jones is pretty mediocre there, about the same as Ekblad. I bet they could see a pretty big jump in their PP goals with a true #1 PP QB.

This is the part where a guy goes to the defending champ who repeats and then pretend he was the reason they won a cup and not just a passenger?

Mr. Cap floor contract obviously is loyal to the Hawks considering he's washed up and they gave him nine million dollars when other teams wouldn't even give him a PTO.

Him trying to point fingers was laughable at the time and now Seth has a Cup when he will never get one.

Alot of ppl were saying Jones was only playing for a paycheck when he obviously wanted to win. While here you have the Hawks signing washed up has beens who are and were.....playing for a paycheck.

Funny how that looks now.
