He overplayed on an awful team. He’s no worse then a player like Dougie Hamilton.Watch him on a nightly basis and you will see why

Perfect compareable....Jones is a Dougie Hamilton that kills penalties (thus the couple minutes more per game) and has played on a much worse team (Pejorative Sluring Jones offensive numbers a little bit). NJ has scored 231 more goals than Chicago over the last 4 seasons and you simply can not compare 18/19 year old Bedard as the only legit PP1 option Jones has had relative to what Hamilton has played with. In other words, flip Hamilton onto the last 4 seasons of Blackhawks and his offensive production would most certainly have been worse. Hamilton is 31 making 9 per for 3 more season and Jones 30 making 9.5 for 5 more.He overplayed on an awful team. He’s no worse then a player like Dougie Hamilton.
They are, only difference is one has draft pedigree, early success and is now overpaid and overrated (by you at least). If you want to sit here and pretend that Mike Matheson and Seth Jones are similar caliber players then by all means.
Never understood why the owners do not go that route. Also saves themselves. Of course the NHLPA may nto go for it.Player signs expensive long term contract now upset team is bad and wants to be moved.
The amount of times we see this.
It's about time we bring contracts down to 5 and 6 years for a returning player.
None of this 8 year crap.
As a Pens fan of we trade Karlsson willing to take Jones on at full cap hit. 3rd rounder the other way.
Biggest Hurdle is the NHLPA. The Owners really fought for the 7 and 8.Never understood why the owners do not go that route. Also saves themselves. Of course the NHLPA may nto go for it.
The Hawks traded what amounted to Adam Boqvist, David Jiricek, and Cole Sillinger. How is that even remotely close to a 5 year set back?Chicagos failures are about the organization AND the players.
The acquisition cost set Chicago back five years and that's what I wrote when the trade was made. That was a ridiculous organizational decision by a desperate GM.
It's one thing to expect them to be terrible for 2-3 years. But to be the worst team in the league 4 years with really no light at the end of the tunnel, that probably was not expected. The hope was probably that they'd begin emerging from their rebuild by now and not be basement dwellers. I don't think that's unreasonable. But, are we to assume Jones blindly agreed to a MASSIVE extension without knowledge of the current teams prospect and trade details?
Chicago wasn't any good when they acquired him and he didn't improve that reality. They sucked without him and sucked with him. If he didn't see that coming, he's also a poor judge of a teams chances. If he wanted to play meaningful games, then stay with Columbus if they were so great.
They all want money. Do you take less money when you are looking for a job?Bottom line, dude wanted money.
Still not his fault. And I fail to see how his contract has hurt the Hawks the last few years. He's been their best dman aside from Vlasic. And Jones can take all the money someone is dumb enough to give him but let's not pretend that his contract didn't have a significant impact on the team. Let's not pretend athletes are oblivious.
The Hawks aren't bad because they lack cap space lol.Professional athletes can get as much money as they want, but in a salary cap world, the more you take the less there is to improve your team.
I like how you pretend that the last 4 years had anything to do with Jones lol.I repeat: a team Jones has been a part of has missed the playoffs going on 8 years now in his career. Why is he blameless? He's not as good as he thinks he is.
He's exercising his rights as a player. You can be upset at him if you want, but its not his fault he has this power. Its your organization's.The current frustration I have comes from making this public. It's a BS power move and I would accommodate him on my own schedule.
If that's 2028 and he doesn't like it, there's the contract termination door.
If playing on a better team is so important, modify your NMC w a playoff team stipulation. Will he do that? Of course not, give him his cake so he can eat it too.
Jones wants special treatment but he ain't special.
Jones is waaay better than Hamilton IMOHe overplayed on an awful team. He’s no worse then a player like Dougie Hamilton.
I agree he’s better than Hamilton. I think he’s on par with DoughtyThe Hawks traded what amounted to Adam Boqvist, David Jiricek, and Cole Sillinger. How is that even remotely close to a 5 year set back?
Only one of those guys is an NHL regular at the moment...
