Ullmark with a Korpi goal last night. But got peppered in the first.

Crookshank looked like he had something to prove. I was very in and out in a different time zone. How did Boucher look?

Guys drafted in 2012 are in their 30's now so they don't qualify for "young talent"... Ottawa should have as much young talent as them if not more since we started with several very valuable assets in 2018

That said, I'm kind of hopeful that we are going to stockpile young talent again (after 3 years of dilapidation), very re-assured with the Yak pick and we have several 4th/5th rounders who are possibilities to become legit prospects. I'm quite high on Moore and Wallenius vs players usually drafted in these rounds.
I understand, but you seem to be overlooking my point. The Sabres should be the last team to emulate for a rebuild strategy. They've been in a perpetual state of rebuilding since 2012 without making the playoffs. It appears they lack a clear direction in their approach.

Disappointed with Ostapchuk's game, he needed to show more as a guy looking to crack the team

Pinto was not great, I get he's a vet and has little to play for but you got to set the tone for the kids.

Adisson, Matinpalo, Roos, and Sebrango can go to the AHL now, they aren't getting a roster spot the way they've played

Dark Butch Yak didn't seem right.

After the first period I was tired but couldn’t stop watching more out of fascination with how terribly we were playing. Could we keep that up? We absolutely can apparently. Against the team Buffalo iced.

And I wanted to keep watching Ullmark, what a showing.

Yak looked great, again.

Its odd because we had an ok start for, like 5 mins, then we just sort of stopped and said, Ullmark's got this...

Anyways, the game answered two questions, Ullmark is legit, and Yakemchuk is going to be good

I thought Boucher looked noticeable.
Both goalies looked really good.
yak obviously had another strong game.

Disappointing camp for angus. Biggest disappointment for me.

Boucher was ok, but still underwhelming, he didn't stand out in a good or bad way.

He had a couple nice hits and got a couple chances. He caught Helenius good at one point I think. And his skating looks really strong to me.

I think he'll make the NHL someday. He'll need to clean up his game though and he needs some consistent healthy playing time to do it.

If he gets close to a full season in the AHL I won't be surprised if he's in the conversation for a roster spot this time next year.

Reminds me of lazar tbh.
No real offense to speak of. Doesn't drive the net, instead is a perimeter shooter and doesn't keep his gate wide enough in front of the net to get any sort of rebound.
Send him down
Yeah, a more physical Lazar, if he can carve that out as a career it will be a good outcome imo.

He can hit, and occasionally rip a shot off on net if someone gets it to him, good skater, tools are there.

If he can be a penalty killing energy 4th liner, maybe there's some hope for him.

You must have been in a jet to do that? Do you own your own jet?

Really??? Fire an entire scouting staff because of one bad pick??? Damn
Is it just one bad pick? We were playing Buffalo’s prospects and AHL squad last night, and they looked pretty good against our guys. You have to give some thought and wonder about how good our prospect pool is at some point. And a reference to Buffalo rebuilding & sucking since 2012 isn’t particularly relevant as picks/prospects from that long ago have either made the club or have washed out. The players at the top of our draft in 2020 are very good, but I think its fair to wonder how good our drafting has been overall in the last 4 or 5 years.

Yeah, he needs to add that layer if he wants to be a full time NHLer.

Can't be on the team just to hit, would need to play 2 minutes of SH to justify that kind of role, like Clutterbuck who was a PK guy as soon as he stepped into the league.

Offense isn't going to be there, if he can become a PK guy, and that's a very big if, he can carve out a career for sure.

While yes they have lots of great prospects. They have made way more picks. Dorion burnt all the sens draft capital while Buffalo has taken the right and more methodical approach. The 2021 draft is daming on the sens scouting staff no doubt. I don't like the 2020 draft outside of the first round either.

They need to add to the scouts and bring a different mind set. But firing them all when they already have a skeleton staff. I don't agree.

It's funny I think Buffalo had a very strange first round in 2022 picking Savoie 9th who I really don't like. Passing on Lekkerimaki but then they pick Ostlund who was a great pick. Then hitting a home run late with Kulich. When you have 3 firsts though I guess 2 good ones and 1 bad is OK. They identified this so they traded Savoie. Means they are willing to admit they made a mistake. I like that. Something dorion would never have done. I wonder if staios will

Couldn’t agree more. We were trading off high 1st rounders when we hadn’t even finished the rebuild yet. They can’t fire every scout in one fell swoop, but hopefully some savvy moves are in our future.

Boucher had a golden opportunity in the first period and sailed it high over the net. Had he buried that, there would've been some genuine excitement building for him. But alas, missed the net, and ends up having just another unremarkable game.

He has speed and physicality, but no finish. Like others have said, Curtis Lazar.. maybe not as good.

One of the best players at camp has been Janik. He was one of only a few creating chances last night. For me, he's earned a spot. I've also liked Sebrango's game. Not ready for the NHL but I'm bullish on his future.

They really should've won the game last night despite being outplayed. I do think Buffalo's guys deserved a lot of credit. Rosen, Helenius and Ostlund all looked great.. especially Ostlund.

jenik made some top 6 quality plays. pretty smart and creative player.

could be a darkhorse not just for the 4th line but much higher in the lineup.

really nice production in the OHL and AHL and only 24, rooting for this guy hard.

Travis Green “it was an ugly game, some players played themselves off the team, cuts tomorrow so we can get down to the real NHL players”

DJ Smith “Played hard, tracked, really loved the effort. These guys are fighting for their lives and the ice wasn’t great, ref’s made a few calls to give them the game but overall I really liked our performance.”

One coach wished the NHL for all his players, the other coach knows the NHL is a club for the elite

Boucher needs to stop trying to be a perimeter sniper and commit 100% to a grinder/waterbug/net jamming type of game.

He hits but he doesn't engage as much as he should. He seems to be looking for open ice a lot.

If he accepts playing a bottom six style he'll flourish. His tools are great.
