I know nothing about him. Welcome aboard, hopefully Zub 2.0.

6’3 207, right shot. Will be 25 in October.

Our depth in Belleville was less than stellar, so additions like this are helpful. It's not so much where they might be in the standings - it's just that there wasn't much NHL calibre help down there this year, and that needs to be fixed.

NIKOLAS MATINPALO, D, FINLAND

The 6-foot-3 right-shot defender had a breakout season in Liiga that earned Matinpalo his first call from the Finnish national team at any age group or level. Matinpalo doubled his offensive output with Assat this season, and at 24, he looks like he’ll only continue to get better. To be clear, his game is a long way from NHL-ready, but another season of trending up in Liiga could shift the conversation.

Anybody know which pair he played at the WC? 3 pts, +5 in a7 game tournament doesn't seem bad...

Like this signing, he has been compared favourably to Hakanpää - big, physical, stay-at home but mobile RD. Just had a breakthrough season at Liiga and is playing today against Canada in the quarterfinals.

More depth, coming into his prime & adds more size to the blueline which is needed. Will likely start in Belleville if he comes over. I wonder what PD does at the draft with a few guys now who may not be part of this team's future.

Seems like decent depth. There's still work to do with the D corps though. We're going to be battling for a wildcard spot, and injuries happen, so we need to be prepared to have 8 defensemen who can step in and play solid NHL minutes. Over the last few seasons, we've typically had 8-9 guys play ~20 or more games each year. Right now we're at:

1. Chabot
2. Chychrun
3. Sanderson
4. Zub
5. Brannstrom
6. Bernard-Docker
7. Kleven
8. Matinpalo?

Top 4 is solid, but ideally we upgrade on Brannstrom and bump JBD down 1 spot. Guys 5-8 are very unproven.

I'd go after Luke Schenn. Need someone with size who can anchor the PK.

Luke Schenn had a bit of a resurgence but he was pretty bad for a number of years prior, buyer beware imo. I don't mind the idea of a physical guy who can PK, I'm just not sold on him specifically, especially at 34.
