Rumor: Senators nearing extension with Zetterlund

This was one guy I REALLY feel like Treliving missed out on, especially since he went for I think a 2nd.

Such an underrated player.

I think SJ's rebuild is looking good but trading him was a mistake
He wasn’t actively available so much as Staios apparently kept calling and asking him about him, until the Sharks finally caved.

2025 2nd+Ostapchuk, with some other small pieces on both sides.

It seems like the Sharks may have valued Ostapchuk highly. He was taken 39th a few years ago, and is big near-NHL ready bottom 6 forward. He likely has a longer development path, but could be their 3C of the future.

Yeah and if he pans out, maybe he will be as good of a player as Fabian Zetterlund lol. I found it bizarre they moved him for next to nothing.

I mean Ostapchuk is smart, fast, and physical. No offensive skills, but that's fine. He's still produced well in the AHL this season.

He's gotta play top 6 minutes now... He didn't produce much in Ottawa, which scares me a bit, but he had his chances and got flat out robbed most times.

Probably the end of Giroux in Ottawa.

I'd like them to work Zetterlund onto the line with Greig and Pinto. I think they could be a shutdown 3rd line with more scoring... exactly what you need in the playoffs.

Amadio can go down to the 4th line.

Tkachuk-Stutzle-Giroux
Perron-Cozens-Batherson
Greig-Pinto-Zetterlund
Cousins?-???-Amadio

Well, you have Batherson and now Zetterlund with top 6 money on the right side. I can't see us paying Giroux what he wants to play in the bottom 6 with limited PP time. I wouldn't bury Zetterlund at the bottom 6 at this point.
That is definitely not top 6 money. That is 3rd line money for a guy that can slot anywhere in the top 9

I was hoping for an extra year or the deal to come in slightly under $4M AAV but honestly considering his trajectory in San Jose it's probably fair for the player he is, and will be, in Ottawa. Seems like his slow finish to the season (statistically anyways) didn't lower his overall value.

I wouldn't necessarily consider it a nail in the coffin to a Giroux re-signing, but it probably does signal no major moves to come in FA (probably only looking at 4C and 3RD now).
