Completely different point, the CHL thing is probably about your depth.

For example look at the DEL b2b champion Red Bull Munich. Kahun Hager Seidenberg Boyle Macek adBirken and Mauer are playing for them. With players like Keith Aucoin who is dominating the DEL like he wants to. And then we get beat by Teams like Bern with Mason Raymond, Ebett and Noreau. Those three canadiens would never join the DEL.

This Win was all about a lazy Canadien Team the First two Periods and momentum by a hard working german Team with chemistry, not because of Skills.

How can you be so sure about that? Remember quarterfinals in Sochi where Canda beat Latvia only 2-1? I guess you don't. Nothing crushing there back then so you can't say that.

Also only beat Norway 3-1, even though Canada should be much better.

Canada outshot Latvia 57-16. Canada outshot Norway 38-20 and the talent gap has only grown with players like McDavid. Try telling me the most logical outcome of Germany and Canada playing, you think it will be 2-1? Gimme a break.

USA lost to Slovenia, Russia lost to Slovakia, Germany beat Sweden and Canada..pretty obvious of what the causality is which is the original point.

I think the Olympic tournament has been more enjoyable than the made for Canada World Cup thing put on 1-1/2 years ago.

I think everyone agrees with that.

The NHL blew it with that "World Cup".

Not to mention, we didn't even have our best guys because the U23s were taken off the team and put on the YoungStars team.

It affected the US a great deal with guys like Matthews unable to play for the US.

No you are wrong, it's not a huge upset and the margin is not huge. In goal Poulin and Aus den Birken is about equal, at defense Ehrhoff is better than any Canadian D and for the rest advantage Canada but not by huge margin. At forward, Patrick Hager, Marcel Goc, Dominik Kahun, David Wolf makes team Canada easilly. Yes Canada should have win but don't underestimate Germany (+ Germany has played a lot more games with this core, these guys knows well each other)

Some of this is incorrect. Chris Lee is vastly better than Erhoff.

Overall, there's a reason the Germans play in an inferior, less-paying league. It's not a miraculous upset, but it's not a 50/50 thing, either.

I think you also have to give Sturm a tremendous amount of credit . He allways had his team putting their all on the line despite not beeing the most talented team. The last two WHC the German team played very well too .

IMO this tourney has been terrific. Guys who otherwise never would have had a shot a representing their countries playing their hearts out with the outcome always I'm doubt. Don't even care that the US went out early.

Has it been the best hockey ever? No. But has it been the best of sport, with passion and surprise and an actual chance for the underdog? You bet. So refreshing.

Jerseys are not everything :) And depth is brutal here :)) But Interesting design for sure

I like the result. The US and Canada getting upset is good for the game. Hopefully Germany wins the gold and youth hockey picks up in Germany.

The NHL is doing everything in their power to get more Americans in the game.
If this helps Germany, it would be great.

"We played against Switzerland, and everybody thought that was it," Marcus Kink started. "Then, we played against Sweden, the World Champions right now, and everybody said ‘OK, the journey’s over’. People had already booked our flights back home, and we beat Sweden and now we’re still here. Then we played Canada, and people were like ‘OK, you guys can’t beat Canada,’ but we’re still here. It’s amazing!"
"It’s funny," Kink continued. "We started group chat and the chat was named Mission: Gold. The guys were laughing when I opened up the chat and invited all the guys. Everybody was like Ha Ha. But then our belief grew every day and now we’re in the finals."

:)

No you are incorrect Ehrhoff > Lee and it's not even close, I took the one who played almost 800 NHL games before the one who played 0. Maybe offensively Lee is a little bit superior but overall and defensely the cap is huge in favor of Ehrhoff. And I never say this was a 50/50 thing. Somewhere between 50/50 and the "huge upset"

Well this tournament needed a good story and the German team has certainly provided one. As unlikely as it probably is I hope when I wake up Sunday morning it's to news that Germany won gold.

Hopefully this run can give German hockey a bit of a bump and something to build on moving forward. As I said up thread, hockey becoming more relevant in Germany and Germany becoming more relevant in hockey would be a good thing for the sport.

EDIT: Oh... Where can I get one of those creepy Russian beer cans?

Canada’s best has played Germany’s best at the Olympics before.
2006 - W 5-1
2002 - W 3-2

Obviously Canada’s current A team would win, but I doubt it would be a ‘massacre’ like some people claim. Germany is always pretty competative vs NHL competition at the Worlds too.
Give em credit.

Congrats Germany!

I wasn't able to watch much of the Canadian games this tournament. I'm just wondering how Willie Desjardins coaching was throughout the tournament? Is he to blame for this result?
