The ones who played today are technically professional hockey players as well; they just ply their trade in a different league, that's all. ;)

If by pro you mean solely the NHL and/or KHL then I agree. These games have been quite amusing!

Germany vs Russia in the finals, who saw that coming?

No, I literally mean all professional hockey players like it used to be.

May the best beer league team win!!!

For the first time since 94......I can strangely say I don’t even care we lost.

Was just very hard to get behind this team enough to care.

I was definitely rooting for them.

What a weird group of guys we'd never heard of, and a few names from the NHL's past.

Would have been neat to see them win a Gold.

As it is, they still have a shot to bring some hardware back. As someone else said, unlike the NHLers, they may have more incentive to play for bronze.

He didn't claim otherwise.

Pointing out that Germany also has it's best players in the NHL in response to someone else saying "things would be different if the NHL participated" is either doing exactly that or it's posting an empty comment for the sake of posting.

The result is definitely disappointing for Canada. However, we are only disappointrd about the outcome, not about the players, as I don't think anyone really expected anything great from them to begin with.

To reiterate..the Canadian team is full of guys who were good enough in junior/college to be prospects, very good in the AHL and/or top Euro leagues. Yes they arent good enough to be NHL regulars but they should be a whole lot better than all the Germans other than the guys in the NHL.

This is a compliment to Canada.. your 300 to 450 guys should still beat the best of most other countries easily. Which isnt that odd in sports with highly localized popularity. New Zealands 5th string would still be a lot better than marginal rugby nations (like Germany).

I think we all agree.

The degree of the upset seems to be the sticking point, but it's not a big deal.

This Canada team was hard to support, not really bummed about the result, more so embarrassed.

They were dirty. They were disjointed. They were sloppy. They had zero skill.

Welcome to our world and how hard it is for other countries supporting their national teams who mess up shift after shift.

Half of the people watching this game have never even heard of NHL! Nobody cares.
