Yikes! Didn't watch because I'm at work, but gratz to Germany. They've got their own miracle on ice thing going, hope they take home the gold. Kinda refreshing whenever it isn't one of the big-4 winning.

In terms of not knowing Canada would walk right to the finals, yes. Am I disappointed Canada lost? Of course, I always want them to win. But this made things more interesting, for sure.

Ok but did you enjoy the hockey less, just as much, or more from an entertainment standpoint?

It's incredible how defensive some posts are.
So insecure it's almost painful

For every "We didn't have our best guys here" post there's a "This proves that Canada is not good at hockey" post.

When the majority of Germans are happy and acknowledging the situation of this tournament and the majority of Canadians are saying congratulations for a well-deserved and history victory.

There were going to be upsets at this tournament and there have been a number.

More exciting than watching this lineup?
Marchand Crosby Bergeron
Tavares McDavid Stamkos
Benn Sheifele Seguin
Hall Mackinnon Giroux
Kieth Doughty
Vlasic Burns
Subban Pietrangelo
Price
Holtby...

Yeah... No

Did I say the hockey was more exciting? Read again.

It was fine. It was more frustrating obviously but I mostly didn't enjoy it because the games were on times I couldn't watch, usually.

Suuuuure.

Not kidding, not sour grapes. When I saw the roster, if you'd told me we'd get bronze I'd be fine with that, still am. Although even bronze is a stretch, so if we don't medal at all, I won't be as fine with that :D.

That being said, losing to Germany obviously wasn't expected, but of all the teams to lose to, it's a great story :). Now if we had lost to the US, I'd be pretty bitter :).

Winning silver when there are only two teams that can win is deflating.

I'm not sure what that has to do with this, or are you just trying to keep this women's thing going a day longer?

Responding to the snarky “enjoy your silver Germany” comments. Don’t think it was too cryptic.

Fair enough. At least you aren't saying you expected to lose to GER. That would definitely not be believable.

Congrats Germany! You guys were the better team through the first two periods and deserved the win!

As a Canadian, I actually prefer the tournament this way - level the playing field and make each game interesting to watch! Would not be opposed to taking all professional hockey players out of the Olympics.

The ones who played today are technically professional hockey players as well; they just ply their trade in a different league, that's all. ;)

If by pro you mean solely the NHL and/or KHL then I agree. These games have been quite amusing!

Germany vs Russia in the finals, who saw that coming?

Also took a look at who Germany may be missing:

Draisaitl (PPG NHL forward), Rieder and Kuhnhackl (depth NHL forwards)
Seidenberg & Holzer (No. 6-7 NHL dmen)
Greiss & Grubauer (serviceable NHL backups)

Would be disingenuous to say they weren't also affected by the NHL ban, but they're probably only really missing Greiss & Draisaitl... Canada missed 23 players...

Especially when you consider that Germany needed help from some of the above (like Grubauer and Draisaitl) to even QUALIFY for the Olympics in the first place

Wow, on Finnish tv Teemu Selänne lost a bet to his fellow analyst Tuomas Grönman due to this game and had to do a split on live tv. Impressive flexibility.

Just to have a perspective about how good those Germans are compared to the "scrubs":

SHL, NLA and KHL are better than the DEL and there weren't any DEL players on the Canadian team.
It was a big upset and the way Canada played they deserve all the blame for what they did.
Just to add to all of this
This is German hockey history. Best finish at the Olympics with silver already.

Germany is proud for their miracle the moment the game was over.
