Yeah swedes care more about this game than we do. They just say it the other way around because they don't wanna admit it.

For us, Russia is the greater challenge

Lol yeah right. As soon as you beat us one time that's all you hear about for years.

We're busy having so called "rivalries" with the other countries in Scandinavia in other sports. Such as Denmark in football and Norway in skiing for instance, i have great respect for them though.

Who are your greatest rivals in sauna?

I hope i ll see in Denmark 2018 a better finnish squad on paper. Laine,Barkov,Granny etc.. Please come next year!

The IIHF Youtube recap has a pretty toxic comment section, with both Swedes and Finns behaving like idiots. Nice to have HFBoards where people keep it classy, for the most part.

Finland and Sweden are rivals in hockey.
And some Finns hates Swedes and some Swedes hates Finns.

Maybe those IIHF's youtube's channel commentators takes hockey too seriously.
Even i don't like Swedes but i don't hate them like some of my countrymen's.

I'm sure probably all Finns wants to see more our NHL players in world championships next year.
But a lot depends on that how much Finnish players plays to NHL playoffs next spring.

Don't kid yourself. It's quite obvious it's only finns living in sweden who cares about beating sweden. I think swedes in general are more obsessed in proving they're the big brother of the two. The same goes as you say against norway in skiing.

Maximal outcome for this team. If all players were healthy 5 guys would make team Finland for me.

Mikael Granlund - Mikko Koivu - Mikko Rantanen
Patrik Laine - Aleksander Barkov - Sebastian Aho
Jussi Jokinen - Valtteri Filppula - Teuvo Teräväinen
Erik Haula - Jori Lehterä - Joel Armia
Markus Granlund
Artturi Lehkonen

Esa Lindell - Rasmus Ristolainen
Olli Määttä - Sami Vatanen
Markus Nutivaara - Julius Honka
Sami Lepistö - Lasse Kukkonen

Pekka Rinne
Tuukka Rask
Antti Raanta

I've lived for years in Finland. I don't think I've ever experienced any fanbase be that obsessed with performance against any one particular opponent in any sport. I've had plenty of Finns tell me they consider outdoing Sweden the priority for any big tournament.

Quite the dramatic difference. Getting the reinforcements from NHL is decisive in these tournaments, but I can't really say that I think that excuses the overall level of play. The results, a final four placement, are quite decent though.

Yeah, I don't really understand the kind of deep-seated hatred some people genuinely seem to hold for either country. As a Finn I have no real hatred for Sweden or swedes as people, most swedes I know are pretty smart, sensible and all around cool people in general.

I understand when it comes to hockey emotions boil over and there's always bit of that special "sibling rivarly" going on.. I just always saw it as more tongue in cheek and just bit of poking fun at each other but not some kind of deadly serious hate. Of course winning the match IS deadly serious and as a finn losing to Sweden is the worst thing that can happen in a hockey tournament, Im sure swedes feel the same about losing to Finland.

Indeed. We had something reasonably close to a dream team last year at least as far as forwards go.. defense/goaltending not so much. I really hope NHL players don't have a problem with Marjamäki as some rumours suggest and we'll actually see some more of them say yes to national team next time.

Our D still looks pretty brutal, luckily we have some top-tier talent like Juolevi and Heiskanen developing. Would also be nice to get another top-6 C.

I don't give a **** whether Sweden bests Norway or Denmark. I don't hate either of the countries, as i said i respect them much. And i probably wouldn't give a **** about Sweden beating Finland so that we can claim that we are "the big brother" if it weren't for finns and their constant trashtalking.

Try hockey swedes.

Oh that constant trashtalking is very much a two way street. All the way down to the media.. in fact the Swedish tabloids tend to far worse when it comes to that sort of thing.

Congrats to you!

Unfortunately you don't represent the country.

Both swedes and finns are equally bad in the trashtalking departement.

I hate media and the way they blow things out of proportion, so that doesn't really matter. Media doesn't represent your ordinary swede or ordinary american or whatever. I'm talking about finns still talking about a win they performed years and years ago. Don't know how many years it took for them to move along from that WC final win over us. Again the, WC, not the Olympics, which is a far more respectable achievement.

We had a team very much like that in the World Cup and look how well that fiasco went :D It's not about the individual names, it's about the team. It has always been so with Team Finland.

Sigh. Get real, both sides trash talk.

Whatever. I don't experience the same behavior from danes or norwegians or whoever. That's all i got to say. But there's obviously some who will trashtalk and some that won't, which involves all nationalities. Haven't experienced as big of a amount in that regard as im doing with finns though.

Sure buddy

Finns only care for the few times they are winning

Still raving about that one time :handclap:

Sounds like the equivalent of drunk Swedish and Finnish teenagers meeting up in a bar, with a plexiglass wall between eachother, where everybody are wearing skimasks.

As for the game, well, this was the probable outcome if you look on both teams on paper.
