I just did looked up the 2015 IIHF WHC gold medal game between Canada and Russia. The refs were from Switzerland and the Czech Republic. So you conspiracy about an American referee always being used in a Canada vs Russia game is false.
Your conspiracy is unfounded when it comes to IIHF run tournaments.
Yes, and that is exactly how it is in pretty much all sports. People would laugh to death in football if you ever mentioned having a neighbouring country's ref for a match. Sweden never gets finnish refs, Russia nevet get belorussian refs, same for slovaks/czechs.. and that is normal and applies everywhere - except for ice hockey when it comes to Canada. That is fraud. I lost interest in the olympics final 2014 and didn´t watch it when I heard that canada would have its refs in the final. Totally bizarre experience.
Congratulations on proving for yourself, but who did ever say Canada always have north american refs?![]()
The GMG at Sochi was totally one sided/NO CONTEST...but leave it to a Russian NOT to give Canucks their due![]()
Plotnikov ice time: 17:20
Kucherov: 14:44
When will Znarok comprehend the difference between "to fight" and "to win"?!
Other than that, I think Nyquil is as I have mentioned elsewhere - a proof if this forums disadvantage of too many North americans, just having stupid things being said because you seem to have same opinion as most other (north americans) here is irrelevant.
It was perhaps one sided, but I guess you didn´t read everything that was being said here. Now IF Sweden would have made it a tight game, say having the lead in the 3rd period - THAT is where we would see the bias take place. No need as long as everything goes your way.
I would love for the KHL to put on a best-on-best event and fill it with Russian refs just so they'd be officially out of excuses when Canada lit them up yet again.
That was a good game. Russia was definitely better in the first two periods and scored two very nice goals. Canada did very well in the third applying pressure. I was very surprised by the third goal, as that felt very much like an overtime game. I must also say that I liked Russia's structure in that game a lot more than in any game I've seen Russia play in a while.
Anyway, a 3-2 result in this game in overtime, to either side, seems like the result that would be most indicative of play. Also, credit to O'Reilly. He was a monster out there.
The penalty against Kuznetsov was the most outrageous! He clearly lost his balance and fell turning the corner behind the net and slid into the goalie. If the goalie leaves the net to go out for a skate and stickhandles around, he does not warrant special protection.
You know for the longest time I really didn't give a royal **** about this tournament. And so did a lot of Canadians that I had spoken with over the years for that matter as well. For Canada it was the Canada Cup (and now Word Cup) and the Olympics which was really all that mattered. This tourney has always been seen as some sort of Euro thingy but now I believe it is finally starting to gain some steam over here in North America. It's still a still meh but we'll see...

Russia was definitely not better in the 1st period. It was even period at best.
Well said. There is a reason why a Hockey Game is three periods. It is a joke that the Russian posters in this forum cannot give credit to Team Canada for their play in the Third Period, and full merits for their win. It was not Ref Bias, but Canada's pressure in the Third, that resulted in Canada coming back to win. Team Canada was the better team 5 on 5 the whole game. It does not matter if Russia was the better team in the first two periods- they played scared in the Third when it mattered. Enough with the excuses for Russia's loss. Full merits to Team Canada for their win.![]()

The better team won. As always. See you next time Russia.
Ehhh it's mostly just one guy whining about the refs. Probably best to save the ref excuse for a more significant tournament. IIHF refs are almost always bad, but even bad refs give more penalties to teams that are chasing the puck. Russia started chasing the puck and then started getting penalties. That's pretty common in hockey. I don't think that Canada has played a complete game yet, but they played well enough to win today. Also, Russian fans can still take a lot of positives from this tournament. Their young guys played well and should be more experienced and battle tested next time.
I would say even at worst, but Russia had more dangerous chances. I didn't find that Canada could generate much of anything in the first.
Was that Maria Sharapova?![]()
Or just someone who looks similar?
