Nice comeback boys. Proud of you guys. Ryan O'Reilly you are a beast bruh!! lol Always nice to beat Russia!!!

On a side note: That was the fastest I have ever heard the anthem being played at an event. I guess the French wanted to get to the boulangerie before they closed!

The penalty against Kuznetsov was the most outrageous! He clearly lost his balance and fell turning the corner behind the net and slid into the goalie. If the goalie leaves the net to go out for a skate and stickhandles around, he does not warrant special protection.

This is why you need better refs.

Too bad they can't have NHL professionals for this tournament.

Not that hard when refs decided to give Canada 5v4 pp for the rest of the game in 3rd.
Canada was called for three straight penalties within 10 minutes of gameplay to start the game (14:54 of the 1st to 24:13 of the 2nd)...did the refs decide the game in Russia's favour then?

Or do you only think the refs decided the game by calling three straight penalties on Russia to end the game (41:40 to 50:13)?

The score was 2-1 Russia when the rest of the game was played 5-on-5 with no power plays for either team, and Canada outscored the Russians 3-0 (so your "5v4 pp for the rest of the game" claim is just false)

The 3rd period was pure domination. The Russian D couldn't handle the constant pressure and forecheck eventually leading to scoring chances and tired players on the ice.

Shots were 18-4 in the 3rd.

Have you ever noticed that teams pile up a lot of shots on goal when they are on the power play? Also, its not uncommon when teams are behind by 2 goals in the 3rd period to commit to all-out forechecking. Russia did a poor job of clearing the zone in the 3rd, and Vasilevsky failed the test when he was under pressure, but there was nothing on display to change your assessment of the Canadian team that many posters refer to as a C team.

That's been the story since Vancouver 2010. The Russians can perhaps match Canada's offensive stars in a top-6/top-9 comparison; however, the Canadian defense has the superstars to handle the Russian elite forwards, whereas the mediocre Russian defense group is overwhelmed by 4 lines of high-caliber players.

Yep, though I still think Russia can beat anyone but Canada.

Much like everyone else :lol

Canada are just a tier above everyone else.

Team USA could challenge Canada but they keep sabotaging themselves with their philosophy.

What a game. I have to admit I had my doubts about the outcome of this game cause that Russia team is very good. My hats off to Canada:handclap:

Russia got dominated in the 3rd period. Don't couple me in with one poster, I've always supported this tournament since I was a kid.

To be frank I agree.
Penalties ruined us the tournament, but that doesn't mean that it's the refs' fault.

Nichushkin was one of the better players on the ice for Russia today though. He was very effective in the first two periods.

How many points has he scored at the tournament? You don't have to be one of the better, you have to score goals. Nichushkin can't and Kaprizov can.

Canada was controlling the pace of the game in 1st period, yes it was pretty even period, but Canada set the pace of the game in 1st period, that's why I said that 1st period was slighty in favor of Canada, even though Russia had more shots in 1st period.

Russia was better in 2nd period, sure, but Canada dominated 3rd period in a much bigger fashion, it was all Canada.

Lol the ref gave Canada like 3-4 PP last Period and 2 of them were not penalties at all lol

It all balanced out in the end Russia had a bunch early. Refs weren't why either team won or lost this game.

Although I don't think Canada scored after that penalty, or did they? Anyway, Team Russia definitely looked better than in the horrendous 6-1 loss, so there may be some progress. But Znarok ... I mean, is Bykov really worse than him? Why was Bykov replaced anyway?

Even I fully understood what Canada's strategy and tactics would be coming into the 3rd period when they were behind 2-0. Obviously, Znarok failed to give his team strategy and tactics to overcome what Canada would obviously do. I've never understood why he is still the coach, you would have to get a good explanation from someone else --- although there is not a long line of candidates behind Bragin to replace him.

In international hockey, the team that drives possession usually gets the calls.

With the quality of IIHF officiating, you want to be the one driving possession.

I for one don't remember ever using that stupid excuse. I love the World Championships and think whoever we can bring deserves our respect and attention and that applies to all teams.

There were 3 penalties, not 4. 2 of them were absolutely clear and deserved. Only 1 was questionable. And Canada did not score on neither penalty. Those penalties were the result of Canada's incredible pressure on Russia.

Any insight into what this was all about:

The game may have had a 15.15 start time, but the gamesmanship started two minutes earlier. Canada came out on the ice on time and lined up along the blue line as is international tradition.

The players waited. And waited. No Russians. Realizing what was happening, the Canadians then started to skate around, and when they saw the Russians come out, they went to the bench, ready to start the game.

The Russians skated to the blue line to line up, realizing what the Canadians were now doing, and retreated to their goalie, Vasilevski, for a final pep talk.
