Another bitter loss against Canada for Russia. The Canadians are just faster, they skate like bulldozers. They're going to take Gold again, no one's stopping them. As for Russia, don't know, if they got to 3-0, they might've broken down Canada mentally but 2-0 just wasn't enough.

Nah, we lost the game mentally when it became 2-2. And all of those penalties in the 3rd were stupid, you can't say Canada forced them, our guys just started to play like they did vs USA. Like headless chickens. It's Znaroks and his hockey. I hope, they'll get Bykov back. Or will try to get him back at least. When you have just 2 lines which can score, you won't beat Canada.

Yeah, you're going to judge the entire fanbase because that one guy who said that?

Plenty of others including me, Nyquil, snipes etc said we care a damn lot about this game and there was plenty of time to mount a comeback.

WHC is fun hockey, I like this better than the World Cup of Hockey this past September.

Count me as another Canadian who cares about a Team Canada victory in WHC.

This is funny. Russia had nothing on Canada except for Pp. Canada dominated them and showed who is the best team.

Please explain? First period was pretty even, Russia outshot Canada. Second period was dominated by Russia, third period was dominated by Canada.

Please tell me how Russia "had nothing on Canada"

We really are in a Golden Era right now at the mens level. Going for a 3 peat here at the WHC. 5 of the last 6 best-on-best Golds.

How was it Vasilevski's fault?
He was excellent. Are you serious?

Vasilevsky failed to make the saves in the 3rd period when they were needed, its as simple as that! He hardly faced any shots at all in the first 2 periods, and when he was called on to stand out in the 3rd, he couldn't do it. Of course a weak defense contributed, but that seems to be a permanent fixture that Russian goalies must overcome.

Thjey aren't going to fire Znarok before the Olympics.

Game was absolutely worth hanging around the house on a Saturday morning for. Such a good seat-of-your-pants matchup. A team, B, C, doesn't really matter...CAN-RUS is almost always a heck of a game.

Canada didn't quit in the third even though the story looked a bit familiar to those national team fans who have sat through five consecutive years of QF exits. They really amped up the intensity level, just laying siege to the net. Full credit to both teams, it was a tight, close game that could rival a playoff game any day.

Hope Russia picks up a medal. These things happen every year so tallying up another Bronze is a decent consolation prize, it wasn't like Russia brought an A-team and choked it away. Feeling confident about Canada's odds in the GMG, they have a lot of fight in this team.

Should have been Mack ROR and Marner.

I agree and I'm a Jets fan. Scheifele was playing out of position on the PP as they put him in front of the net and he usually plays on the sideboards. Still had a big goal to get things going as did Mac. ROR was incredible! Great comeback win!

To be honest Vasilevski didn't play well this tournament. He is good when there is little action because he is so big, but when we played against good teams we lost. I think that it's more on Znarok, than on Vasilevski, but he didn't play all this good in spite of the stats.

I wonder if there has ever been a game when Canada is struggling but the opponent doesn´t get milions of penalties for every **** reason you can get in order for Canada to have a chance to get back. Doesn´t really matter if you score a goal when it's 5v5 after more or less 15 mins of power play.. you run out of gas and can never get your game organized.

Canada just has to love having american refs everytime they play big games.

Yes...when it comes to sports, CANADA (not Russia) is world renowned as cheaters. :sarcasm:

You can't say the refs gave the game to Canada. Canada took plenty of penalties in the first 40 minutes. It's what got Russia the momentum in the second. Russia took legitimate penalties in the third.

Good game Team Canada, well-deserved win! As for our team, very shameful to lose the lead like this. Don't know what to say, Znarok probably does need to go. He can't beat Canada, just can't do it.

5 on 5 the whole game was close except for some of the 3rd.
My thoughts are that after RUS got up 2 goals they tried to shut it down and Canada adapted then when it was tied Russia couldn't play as tight and Canada exploited that. It took Canada 2 and a half periods to figure out Russia

Really? He saved 31 out of 34 and I don't think he's to blame for one of the three he let in.

A lot of momentum was gained for Canada when they managed to score on the PP after 17 seconds into the 3rd period.
Had they not scored I think that would have allowed Russia to get the game back into the pre-penalty stage that they had during whole of the 2nd period. Also all those missed opportunities in 2nd would have decided it too, I think.

But the biggest decider I still believe was all those power plays Canada was getting in the end of the 2nd period/whole 3rd period. It gets really annoying knowing you can never lead a game against Canada in any major tournament without starting to get tons of penalties against you in the end.

I honestly believe that this is a huge problem in international hockey, just like the bias for football teams like Barcelona, R Madrid etc. (me being barcafan and admitting this being a problem). Refs get too pressured to favor these kind of teams with huge influence over the sport.
