GDT: Semi-Finals: Sweden vs Finland; Jan. 4, 2025; 15:30 EST

As a Swede I’m always scared meeting the Finns, they love putting in an extra gear against us.

I think Finland will take this.

Yeah I'm never taking anything for granted vs Finland either, they're almost always a tough opponent. No matter what team they field.

Thinkining this could be a close one - A lil bit worried about goaltending for Sweden but hopefully there's plenty of room for improvement.

Going to be a fun game.

On paper.. Sweden. But I don't think that matters. This is going to OT. Czechs play one of you tomorrow so I hope you go to war on each other. Finish every check. Block every shot. Push after every whistle. Leave nothing behind!

I have no idea who wins. Brain is Sweden. Hearts says Finland. So go hockey!

Finland has a chance if Rimpinen is in god mode and the big dogs (Helenius and Uronen, I'm pointing at you) get something done.
 
So who are the refs for this game?

They could/will decide who goes through to the final - if this is a close game, as everyone expects it to be ⚖️

If we play like first 20min vs Slovakia we have a chance to go gold medal game.
But if we play like last 40min vs Slovakia Sweden will destroy us.

It is now depend on that which Team Finland comes on the ice.
Skill and powerplay advantage goes to Sweden.

Penalty killing and goaltending advantage goes to Finland.
But good goaltending and good penalty killing is not necessarily enough.

There was some terrible blunders and other mistakes in Slovakia game.
Today we don't have afford on those at all if we wanna go to gold medal game.

Also not taking boneheaded and idiotic penalties is a must today.
Sweden is most efficient team in powerplay in these U20 WJC's.

Overtime wouldn't be surprise today.
Despite of Finland's tough challenge and fight Sweden goes to gold medal game.

Final score 4-3 for Sweden after overtime.
Sweden's national hero Axel Sandin-Pellikka 1+2.
 
People are sleeping on Gidlöf... Everyone are mentioning that goaltending is a weak spot for Sweden. They can easily fix that and pick the right goalie. Then they have top3 goalie in this tournament together with Rimpinen and Hrabal. Pretty simple. Not to mention Swedish D's are a lot better.

Exactly, to lose a game before it even starts is some f”cking achievement. The only reason anyone would say this is if they’ve never seen Thelin play before.
