WHO IS A PROSPECT: http://www.hockeysfuture.com/whatmakesaprospect

HOW TO RANK PROSPECTS: Based on their value in a hypothetical trade or waiver draft. This takes into consideration a prospect's ceiling, how close he's to making it, his health, work ethic, the whole deal. Imagine there was a prospect waiver draft and you could keep only one prospect. That guy is our #1 prospect. Then imagine we had one more waiver protection. That guy is our #2 prospect.

PROSPECTS ELIGIBLE TO BE ADDED

Beach, Kyle
Bourque, Ryan
Donnay, Troy
Jean, Kyle
Missiaen, Jason
Nicholls, Josh
Spelling, Thomas
Stajcer, Scott
Wilson, Jason

Noreau because a big defenseman could make a big difference for a team even on the third pairing.

Add Bourque. He's underrated as usual - good skater, hustles every shift more than even Callahan does, excellent shot. Plays with scrubs, so his stats aren't great, but he should definitely be in the poll right now.

Nicholls is almost 22 and isn't even special at the ECHL level. It's not impossible, but hard to see him developing into anything more than a depth AHL guy.

Not only is Bourque the best of the available players already, but he has clearly the best shot of playing in the NHL. I can see a realistic scenario where he gets called up to the Rangers. I can't imagine it with Nicholls.

Fogarty, add Donnay.

Regarding Bourque, what use is a small, concussion-riddled 4th liner? I'd rather add Donnay, who is big and has at least a little upside.

If you're voting purely on upside, yeah, Donnay over Bourque. If you factor in likelihood of reaching that upside and a player's value if he doesn't, it's Bourque. If Donnay doesn't pan out he's an ECHL defenseman, or worse.

I just think Bourque, even if he does someday make the NHL, has little value. If it comes to the point at which we need a 5'9" 4th liner with concussion issues in our NHL lineup, we have alot of problems.

Donnay, on the other hand, still has a shot at being a bottom-pairing NHL D with size and reach. Even if it's only a 1% chance, that player, to me, holds more value than a player with a 50% (being generous) chance to be an absolutely useless NHL 4th liner.

Yeah, I understand that. It's all in how you weigh the different variables in the equation. And at this point, you're talking about guys that are very unlikely to ever become NHL players, so it's not even a big difference.
