Now we are actually building a serious hockey team .. Monahan, Fantilli and Sillinger down the middle this year
Okay woof. Nevermind, do not like. I was expecting 3x4 or something like that.
That being said, the cap is rising, ultimately we probably can afford this.
Per usual, the term is way too long and the AAV about $1-$1.5m too high.

Don't hate it. Hate 5 years more than 5.5 per. I was thinking he would want 6+ per year to come here.
That's a lot of term and money but I guess the hope here is that him and Johnny both have a real bounceback together

I'm very meh about it. It gives us depth for the kids and HOPEFULLY helps Johnny. I'm not holding my breath that this suddenly kick-starts Gaudreau though.
And we still need to make some moves on D, desperately.
Reuniting Monahan with Johnny and Gud is as good a plan as any, tbh.

I've wanted Lindholm since last off season, but maybe the price would have been higher for us.

Massive Pickup… Monahan gives us a formidable center group with Monahan , Fantilli, Sillinger down the middle and a massive third line identity with Voronkov Sillinger Jenner on your 3rd line. Honestly if you couldn’t make this move , you would pivot to trade Gaudreau.. As Waddell said Saturday , you win in this league with Center play , and Defense .. does no good to have a Laine , and a Gaudreau , and play them with Jenner who is a 20ish assist per year player

This is what I hear from most people here.
We want experienced players but we don't want to pay for them.
It's not like we gave Stamkos at 34 years old 8 million for 4 years.

Can't wait to hear Waddell's reasoning on this. History with JG, faceoff numbers and "veteran presence" alone don't justify that term and AAV.
Its an overpay but not shocking for a small market team thats been horrible for awhile now. We need vets so thats as much a part of it as his offense

Important thing people are overlooking. Monahan knows how to actually win a faceoff. I know that is foreign to the CBJ.
Depends on how much he produces. The last few years it's been about $1M for every 10 pts of production, slowly thats going to start changing as the cap continues to rise. If we can get 40-50pts out of him, as long as he's not a complete defensive liability..it should be fine.
