Even though we lost I’m glad our young guys got a taste of the playoffs. JD said key word patience Right now is when we need it . We’re getting better. We need more talent. More grit with skill.
We will have a lot of money coming off after next season. Keep filling the pipe with talent. LGR.

Isn't Zubov a hall of famer and cup champion? That'd be pretty typical Rangers i guess.. But what do you mean? Sorry I'm not fully aware of the history
He was supremely talented at running a pp and very skilled but an average defender subject to being erased from games by physicality. The Flyers put him through the backwall for a series and management decided he was too soft, so he got moved for an ok 2c.

Last time we stunk that bad in the playoffs we traded Stepan and Raanta.

So I guess Strome and Georgie for #7 pick and a disgruntled player with a questionable social media account.

If we could do that trade it would be amazing for us. 7, 13, and 18. I would do backflips.

Well. A few thoughts.

It isn’t the only reason we lost, but you can’t tell me the Rangers weren’t, very likely, the worst prepared team in the bubble. That is a coaching/culture issue. The culture question goes back a loooong time and we often questioned if the reason this team couldn’t get over the hump during their last window was because it is too much of a player accommodating country club in the organization. We were flat out the least prepared team. That’s the biggest black eye here.

We have good pieces in place. Team defense/depth is an issue. We need better than a bottom six that is a patch work of kids. We need designated checkers with experience in that role playing for a purpose. Likewise, the veteran leaders on the blue line can’t be half blind pylons, they need to be able to demonstrate leadership and play meaningful minutes.

The Hank haters were beyond annoying this series. Yes, Igor is an amazing young goalie and the franchise’s future. He also is not a super powered, holy anointed savior as so many of you believe, and the Hank bashing was truly ugly. When Shesty ultimately played, the results were identical.

Mika and Kreider in the post game... neither is truly C material. Good As, but neither of these guys looks like they could bear the additional weight of a the C. It was a sorry display. I’d rather stick with just As until Fox or somebody really stands out than give either of these guys the C and have to strip them in a couple more years.

If Quinn believes so little in Strome & Panarin duo, and the results through the first 3 games are what they look like when they aren’t on a hot streak, or when it’s playoff hockey, there’s no reason to commit to Strome. What they did during the regular season was special. What they did during these games, actually anyone could do. Not trying to give these games more weight than they deserve, but judging Strome based solely off the heat and momentum of one 50 game stretch of his career is something to be cautious about.

Brett Howden doubleshifted in an elimination game. He's reaching Tanner Glass and Jimmy Vesey levels for me.
I’d love for some beat to grill Quinn on this but you just know he’d spew some “Brett plays the game the right way” BS

I thought Shesterkin was supposed to make them a better team, transition better, leading to more goals, stopping a higher percentage of shots, just making the team superior in every way.

Lundqvist was a .901 and Shesterkin was a .900.

Maybe Lundqvist wasn't the problem in this series? People made him sound like he can't play at the NHL level. That he was most to blame for their struggle. Yet we see Shesterkin come in, and not a lot changed. End result was still the same.

Guess we still needed four goals to win.

Too be honest, not even mad. As I said previously, this "play in" series vs Hurricanes was all gravy and part of the bonus plan. Did I want us to win? Of course. Did I think we would? Yeah I thought we would in 4. Never thought we'd get swept.

That said future is ridiculously bright as this rebuild which is close to it's end, which has been orchestrated by Gorton has been phenomenal. We are about a year to year and half ahead of schedule...I have nothing to complain about neither should any of us in here.

Next year begins IMO a good 10+ year stretch where Rangers will be perennial playoff participants and by 2022-2023 serious Cup contenders. Now that we are eliminated we now have a 12.5% chance of winning the lottery and the opportunity to pick Lafrenier which would be ridiculous for our chances to win multiple Cups during this decade.

So crossing my fingers for that too occur. Now that we are done, I'm hopping aboard the Canes bandwagon in the East and on the Avalanche wagon in the West. One thing for shit sure, Bettman and the NHL deserve alot of credit in how they have handled things as this bubble strategy has worked even better than I thought it would.

Solid season and can't wait for next year as this team will be officially scary.

DQ reaction to the question about the first goal was just terrific. Been a long time since I've seen a coach essentially toss the group under the bus for such a basic stupid mistake. How do you not give the d man a stick on that play. Him laughing at what happened was great.

Oy vey. One of the many comments in here that is just absurd.

Let's point out a few things:

1. This was not a real playoff series. Teams go into the playoffs after 7 months of growing and building as a team. Young players find their grooves. Teams that were not gelled at the beginning of the season now are clicking on all cylinders, etc. This is a COVID Cup tournament, that is strictly being played to salvage some of the lost revenue. Having a 4 month layoff (actually longer than many offseasons) and then playing one warm up game before hopping into the 'playoffs' is just ridiculous.

2. To blame any of these players for their performance is equally ridiculous. We have no idea how their last 4 months looked like. And I highly doubt it looked like a traditional off-season. What was their workout regime like? Did some suffer from COVID? Were their family members suffering? Were they even able to skate? Judging any of these players on a 3 game performance after one of the most unique 'off-seasons' in history, is just crazy (especially when you've watched Panarin for 70+ games).

3. This team exceeded all expectations this year. Lest we forget how solid they looked in the final stretch. They are growing, maturing, have a ton of young and established talent and really took a huge leap this year.

4. Finally, this is for the best. Giving us a chance at another high quality pick is far better than having a short playoff run (we're not winning the cup anyway) in front of no home or hostile fans, without the real magnitude or feel of what it actually means to play in a legitimate playoff game. It's not that I think this entire playoff tournament is worthless, but I do not think it will prepare rookies or young players for what's to come in an actual playoff series. The most important aspect of making the playoffs for young teams is to help them grow with that experience. This is nothing like that. The best teams are coming off a four-month hiatus and are not going in guns blazing and with no fans, it's really like a weird teenage tournament, rather than an actual series and I just don't believe it will prepare young players for what the reality will be in the future.
Points 1 and 2 are being overlooked by 95% of posters.

It certainly looked like the majority of Hurricanes were able to skate in some fashion over the break. We know many Rangers were completely unable to skate, work out, or do much of anything physically outside of run.

Anyone who thought the Rangers would be physically prepared are delusional.

To be fair, Staal with a stick is just as bad as Staal without a stick.

Hopefully next season will be uninterrupted so that Panarin won't have time to get out of shape and quinn won't feel the need to break up the top two lines. Oh and try to fool some gm into giving you something for Strome.

We were the flatest team out of 24. Whether guys skated or not they needed to train and be ready, I really saw none of that. By the 3rd period most of them were gassed.

There better be some changes. This team is close & they shouldn’t spend it on shitty depth players. Need support on all 4 lines!!

This team is not that close and there will absolutely be a ton of changes in the coming years as a result. Forward remains a work in progress. Only defense and goalie are more or less set, and even on D the search continues for a sure fire #1/LD.
