This series gave me such an anxiety attack. I can watch hard fought hockey even if there is a loss, but to watch unprepared, unconditioned players get swallowed by a team that THEY ABSOLUTELY CAN BEAT is inexcusable.

f***, the ballerina who went to Montefiore had more heart & determination than them....

DeAngelo clearly was off. Whether that's due to the break or injury who knows. Strome, did anyone expect differently? Ultimate perimeter player useless in the playoffs. Yawn.

DeAngelo's decision making was what confused me, his skating wasnt as good but it wasn't that, he was not making smart plays and that's mental not physical, I saw a lot of panic in him that I never saw before. I'd be nervous now giving either guy a long term deal now, hopefully both get short deals.

I would like to hear Zibanejad say he was garbage. Not just disappointed in himself, etc. Him & Panarin completely shit the bed this series.
I thought Panarin was better today. Not close to his usual level though. But Panarin was very bad in previous games. Zibanejad was just soulless. Only thing he did was shoot the puck. Did not create anything or battle.

Has anyone made the joke yet that Carolina’s used to playing/winning in an empty arena?

Because if not, I’ll fall on that grenade

There better be some changes. This team is close & they shouldn’t spend it on shitty depth players. Need support on all 4 lines!!

I get that for the most part, unfortunately this is “who they are” more than the hot streak in Feb-Mar was.

But what a disappointment. They looked as bad as any team in the bubble four games in a row. They looked out of shape and poorly prepared. Carolina owned, absolutely owned the middle of the ice. They frustratingly did not look resilient either, barely showing a pulse after going down each night, though it’s hard to be resilient when you know your team is being flat out outplayed.

As disappointing and frustrating as it was, I think it’s important to not draw too many conclusions. To call this a weird situation would be an understatement. I think it would be a mistake to let this influence roster or coaching decisions.

That’s not to say the NYR don’t need work. They need to find depth - they iced 5 players who should be AHLers not on playoff rosters...DiG, McKegg, Howden, Gauthier, Staal and arguably Kakko/Chytil. They also need Kakko and to a lesser extent Chytil to develop into productive NHLers...lot of pressure for two kids and obviously will be a process but it’s a reality.
I thought we were really good in the neutral zone in the first. We were in their faces as soon as they touched the puck. Of course they made adjustments and then took it to us with their cycle. And as soon as they spread us out, we were toast. Once they got the lead it was over. Clogged the middle and hugged the points on the blueline. Carrying the puck didn't work. Stretch passes didn't work.

The curse of getting eliminated by recent Rangers continues. This series also showed me Panarin doesn’t deserve the MVP. He’s elite but he doesn’t carry play like Mackinnon can.

Oy vey. One of the many comments in here that is just absurd.

Let's point out a few things:

1. This was not a real playoff series. Teams go into the playoffs after 7 months of growing and building as a team. Young players find their grooves. Teams that were not gelled at the beginning of the season now are clicking on all cylinders, etc. This is a COVID Cup tournament, that is strictly being played to salvage some of the lost revenue. Having a 4 month layoff (actually longer than many offseasons) and then playing one warm up game before hopping into the 'playoffs' is just ridiculous.

2. To blame any of these players for their performance is equally ridiculous. We have no idea how their last 4 months looked like. And I highly doubt it looked like a traditional off-season. What was their workout regime like? Did some suffer from COVID? Were their family members suffering? Were they even able to skate? Judging any of these players on a 3 game performance after one of the most unique 'off-seasons' in history, is just crazy (especially when you've watched Panarin for 70+ games).

3. This team exceeded all expectations this year. Lest we forget how solid they looked in the final stretch. They are growing, maturing, have a ton of young and established talent and really took a huge leap this year.

4. Finally, this is for the best. Giving us a chance at another high quality pick is far better than having a short playoff run (we're not winning the cup anyway) in front of no home or hostile fans, without the real magnitude or feel of what it actually means to play in a legitimate playoff game. It's not that I think this entire playoff tournament is worthless, but I do not think it will prepare rookies or young players for what's to come in an actual playoff series. The most important aspect of making the playoffs for young teams is to help them grow with that experience. This is nothing like that. The best teams are coming off a four-month hiatus and are not going in guns blazing and with no fans, it's really like a weird teenage tournament, rather than an actual series and I just don't believe it will prepare young players for what the reality will be in the future.

Do you guys think Ruff might not have been the problem?

He was a huge part of it.

They weren't going to change the system over night but there were a ton of factors outside of it. DeAngelo getting hurt, Shesty getting hurt, Quinn being a moron, Staal being Staal, Panarin turning into 2014-15 St. Louis, etc.

He's gone, but a ton of the problems with this team still remain. It's going to be really tough to fix them since they've unnecessarily tied up so much cap trying to "accelerate" the rebuild but it is what it is. Dead in the water they are not, but unless the front office can get over the coach's undying love for some players and their own for another, it will be the same song and dance next year, maybe even worse depending on how much the FO overreacts to this series.

Lets get that 1OA.

Only trouba could play the game of his life only to cough up the puck toward the end and lose the game for us.
He didn’t lose the game for us.

We managed to score 4 goals in 3 games against the team that had arguably the worst goaltending in the postseason.

The team lost the game. Not any individual. Except kinda Marc Staal. f*** that guy.

Obviously I would love Lafreniere. But I would rather us look better and progress. Getting lots of top picks just means the development of your players has stalled

Getting top picks for a decade straight might mean that.

The Rangers are like 2 years into a rebuild.

Hitting on at least one more top 10 pick is practically a necessity for them.

Landing Lafreniere the year after landing Kakko would be huge for them. If not they should absolutely move heaven and earth to trade up higher into the top 10 if the alternative is to take a player of the caliber of Dylan Holloway.
