Confirmed with Link: Scott Laughton (50% Retention), 2025 4th, 2027 6th to the Leafs for Nikita Grebenkin, conditional 2027 1st

Well, Tampa has traded first round picks for long term pieces like Brandon Hagel which certainly helps having to not drafting and developing. They also traded a younger player in Sergachev for some futures this past summer which gives them more youth in different areas. They’ve struck out on Tanner Jeannot but otherwise seem to be spending their firsts on a player that managed to work into their core, and have been more aggressive trading our outer core pieces.
When TB traded their 1sts. They have every intention of signing those players to extension. Something the Leafs just couldn’t do due to not having the cap. McCabe and Laf were the players that acquired at TDL with terms and now we got Carlo and Laughton.
I do think the Tre could resign both Boosh and Edmundson but decided to upgrade and sign Tanev and OEL instead.

That Flyers team is a joke. Better he stays in the minors getting some top quality minutes.
Maybe, but getting NHL experience would benefit a talented player like Grebenkin, but to quote Treliving " more back-check, bigger pay check."

Wish we had traded for Kuzmenko from the Flyers instead of Laughton. Only cost the Kings a 3rd round pick and he'd fill a need which is secondary scoring and he's doing pretty well so far with the Kings. Increasingly its looking like it was a complete waste to trade that 1st and Grenbenkin for a dude who so far is mostly just there and only playing about 12ish minutes a night.

Even if they had just traded the obligatory first for Brock Boeser we’d have an extra scorer for the playoff run. Or traded for another defenseman in a deal similar to the Carlo trade and gone power overwhelming in defense.

This is always such a stupid take. Just because one team got him for that price doesn't mean everyone else could have. There are a ton of variables involved.

Vancouver was not going to accept a conditional 1st round pick three drafts from now that will end up being a late one for Brock boeser.

That pick really didn’t have much value this year, it’s too far away, with hindsight they should have kept the pick for something next year.

The Laughton deal was not the biggie anyway.

I'm not sure they could do Carlo and Boeser with the ammo they had.

Laughton for 20th+ pick and 4th. and 6th. for Grebenkin. This isn't big game hunting.

I bring up Brock Boeser because it’s exactly what they were looking for and didn’t get.

It’s called body checking for a reason. Designed to separate the puck carrier from the puck as in winning a puck battle.

Laughton doesn’t do enough of that.

he’s gently bumping into guys sometimes ok what more do you want, the man is a physical menace out there. The other team gets sleepless nights before playing us knowing that they have to deal with Laughton’s relentless punishing checks.
