Series Talk: SCFs Discussion - Looking To Play Spoilers AGAIN - Panthers Trail 0-1

The majority of sponsored Canadian sports media broadcasts and podcasts are touting the Oilers over the Panthers in the Cup finals. That in itself is not surprising but the motivation for their overwhelming consensus may not be as innocent as an ode to hometown cooking.

NATIONALISM
Canadians boast that hockey is 'their' game and the time has come to 'take it back'. Since Canada has had such a dismal record winning a championship during the modern era NHL, and as a country they really don't have much else to brag about, it really is no wonder that they will grasp at anything to warp their fantasy into sorely lacking reality.
To many of them it is sacrilegious that their sport's ultimate prize has passed through the state of Florida for the last six years and it is beyond humiliating that the U.S. overwhelmingly dominates them at their own game.
This is what ultimately leads to their repetitive refrain of “we deserve this” and the cultish, delirious fawning over a divine-like idol they believe will lead them to the fulfillment of the void they obsess over.

RESIDUAL WOKENESS
As a country, they are so beaten down by "correctness" it has infiltrated the way they perceive hockey. Look at the Leafs, a microcosm of Canadian futility. At the start of the season all the "Leaf lickers" parroted the same mantra, "this year it feels different". Like giggling schoolgirls, they pursued a few mid-tier players from the championship team and those acquisitions placated their superficial yearning with a fresh coat of paint masking over their core deficiencies.
Now at the cup finals, this desperate entity reaffirms in unity, their sycophantic allegiance to the holy Oilers, blindly twisting their repeat appearance into a hope pretzel. You've heard it all. "Crosby and Gretzky lost their first try too". "We have more depth". "Our third defense pair is better". "Skinner is the hottest goalie in the playoffs". "It feels right this year". “McJesus Mcdeserves it”. Yeah, sing that same tired tune to your down trodden, tone deaf masses.

FOLLOW THE MONEY (There’s a sure thing coming.)
Unlike a typical media sponsor of yore, ("please, buy our product it can enrich your life") the current predominate Canadian sports media peddlers are predators, with a weak minded pool of prey, just so desperate for a win, they will believe in any elixir that alleviates their long suffering, lustful desires.
There they sit. Slick professional media hucksters mixed in with ex-players, who make more money now than when they were playing. Multiple times a week, sometimes multiple times a day, they posture at a desk with their coiffed hair, fake teeth, weird accents and ill fitting suits counting down as the Canadian teams fall from the ranking brackets, like maple leafs in the Florida breeze, hoping that at least one northern franchise will survive. During their post-mortems, they continuously spew the company’s line.
These same talking heads, who were almost all wrong with their Eastern Conference playoff round predictions, once again smile as they proclaim who will be the victor in this year's cup finals. The difference is this is your last chance to buy their propaganda. These "salesmen" serve up the wares of their benefactors and their benefactors want your money, not only want your money but WANT you to lose. No, they NEED you to lose.
