just guys being dudes

Probably a controversial opinion here but I've come to the realization that I am not cool with seeing Marchand winning the Cup with another team. Not at all lol. I thought I was good with it and was very much cheering him on until the start of this series but every time he scores in the Final, visions of the missed breakaway in 2023, the bad line change leading to the Pietrangelo goal in 2019, and the no-shows in 2013 and 2014 go dancing through my head and start annoying me about all the squandered opportunities with the Bruins lol.

Happy for him as a fan but, damn, is it killing me at the same time haha.

was posted in the Bs forum. underscores what i was saying a month or whatever ago - we're seeing a player that hasn't existed in BOS for some time. i hadn't thought about it deeply but i did after reading this and the only thing i can come away with is that the Bs management really wasted his talent. he had some great years offensively but they never put him in a situation like this - they were good but never this deep.

he's playing a style now and with guys who are getting him pucks and because of our depth, he's getting better match-ups; he's the best player he can be right now. will be interesting to see what he chooses to do next year, regardless of the outcome of the series or his role the rest of the way.

EDIT: oh, also, from Bs forum:

An Oilers fan said it best:

"Florida is realistically in a tier of their own in this league for a few years running now. We’re all in agreement there.

Our guys can handle the lower tier playoff clubs and can make plays around their shoddy D, but when push comes to shove and we’re up against the elite forecheck and endless maniacal tenacity that is Florida … they wilt. How many times can injuries be used as an excuse rather than the most likely fact we simply can’t hang?

Tkachuk goes out there with his brother putting his jersey on because his body is broken and still battles much harder. He is struggling now with a bad injury but he’s still battling way harder than our guys.

That’s the difference. It’s their entire culture and expectation from top to bottom. Relentless. We just don’t have that ability."

Pretty much sums it up, and you know what? Not one like, but several likes for the guy that said Marchand high sticked himself. Or Lundell flopped. Or Bob flopped. They are a bunch of losers and I am glad they are getting what they deserve. From the time this series was set, we were told how much they learned from last year. The loss of Hyman wasnt that big of a deal because of their depth. How they were deeper than last year, and deeper than us. Any sane person can see that simply wasnt the case. If we can continue to take out McDrai like we did last night, or at least contain them to a point or two, this series is ours.

The cap is beautifull, you actually have to build a whole team and be clever with team building instead of paying superstars and have scoring contest. Its not coincidence not single player in Panthers have contract over 10M, and not single player in Panthers score three digits with cost of defense. It leaves room for adding other important pieces, it makes team tougher, they have to play as a team with roles. I love it, hope every other team in the league copies the formula.

Obviously with the cap going up, we are going to be paying more for players, that may go beyond the Barkov range. But having that core locked in for the rest of the decade, at the ridiculous total that it is, really is why the Panthers can compete for multiple cups for the rest of the decade. And with the cap going up significantly, Zito will have his pick as to who he wants to sign, because I believe everyone will want to be in that organization.

I honestly think they might not pay anyone over Barkov but instead make more clever cost friendly additions, make team even more deeper, play even more tougher. Its least that what I wish to happen. Adding individual scoring wont work, it wont bring you cup, why to change anything.

With the cap going up as much as it is, our top players AAV will be comparible to that of a lesser 2nd line/pairing free agent. Its just how the nature of the business works. 3rd and 4th liners, and bottom pairing Dman will get paid close to what Gus is being paid. With the amount of cap space we will have from 26 on, we can add a top six forward, or top 4 Dman, for what likely may cost more than what Barkov makes, and still be able to sculpture the team to Zito's and PoMo's liking.
