I take SCF Phil Kessel, as he outperformed Sidney Crosby in his Conn Smythe win, but the voters gotta go with the good ol Canadien boy

Kessel played on the 3rd line while not forechecking or backchecking. While Crosby played against other teams top lines while outmatched because he had worse linemates so the team could have depth.

The next cup Kessel played with Malkin, who kept fighting with him over not chasing down pucks.

He was a soft and lazy winger who floated around waiting to be given the puck. He's the opposite of the type of player you want to win a playoff game.

Kessel performed so well on that line with Bonino and Hagelin partly because he matched up against weaker opposition while Crosby and Malkin faced the more difficult matchups. Crosby is the far better player and has an equally impressive history of clutch performances (see the Golden Goal, GWG in the original Winter Classic), plus his playoff pts/game stats are significantly better than Kessel's and he played much more and harder minutes than Phil. I really don't think this should be close.

What is even SCF Kessel?

In 12 SCF games, he has 8 points and 2 goals. That's a pace of 54 points and 13 goals in 82 games. He isn't exactly a fantastic SCF performer....

You take Crosby - who is by far the superior overall player, including the superior playoff performer and stanley cup final performer.

I don't get what's with these strange hypotheticals that will never happen. The Stanley Cup finals are played in best of seven games, not just one. But we have the Olympics for that, in which Crosby has scored in both finals he's been in and won gold, including scoring the OT winner at home ice in Canada.

If someone can handle that kind of pressure, against the toughest possible competition there is in hockey, you can be sure they can handle the pressure of a game 7 Stanley Cup final.

Kessel was getting all the cushy minutes beating up on 3rd pairing d-men or thrown out when a tired group was stuck on the ice. The Penguins were able to dominate with that '3rd line' with Kessel because of the brilliant 1/2 Crosby Malkin combo up the middle of the ice.

Kessel's impact compared to Crosby's is a joke in comparison.

Not in 2017 when Sid was awarded the Smythe. I would be more favorable to Phil in 2016 but I still think Letang should have won the Smythe for that run.

Kessel had just 3 more points than Crosby in 2016, taking advantage of significantly lesser match-ups. Claiming he was robbed is just stat-watching and reeks of casual fan-energy.
