Post-Game Talk: SCF Game #4 - Shorks lose 3-1

Even though he might be showing up on the scoreboard, he looks like a completely different player than earlier these playoffs. Some of it is the Pens' D, but a lot of it is because he isn't moving his legs. I mean, he lost board battles to Lovejoy this game...

He's standing still reaching for pucks and tossing pucks hoping for the best.
Drive the net, actually face the net instead of having your back to it, do something.

Everyone is getting tied up by the Pens speed, but I think Jumbo has looked better than most. He's also doing a phenomenal job backchecking, which IMO is the biggest difference between the times we are dominating and the times we aren't.

Although I do agree that this series he's fallen back into that obnoxious "stand frozen at the halfboards and look for a pass" thing.

well the way the pens have shut burns down, like i said in that thread, is by absolutely creaming the 3rd pairing. that makes it impossible to run burns with thornton's line as thornton's line is used to shelter dillon-polak. getting burns the puck with space and time is much harder when it's not thornton-hertl-pavelski dominating down low.

It's a good point, but I don't think that's all there is too it. They aren't giving him the space he is used to up at the blue line, even on power plays.

well we have faced quick pks before. I think what's hurting our pp more than anything is pavelski. he is just not effective enough and on the pp should be when he can find space if he otherwise can't.

the irony is i really wonder if dillon-polak needs to be sheltered with o-zone starts. they screw up the worst when they have to pursue the puck out of the o zone and into the d zone. when the play starts in the d-zone, they have forward support, no changes on the fly, and faceoff plays often have set scripts that help them with decisionmaking.

Yes, please get a calculator and show me how it's true. You're just blowing hot air.

Okay since you're incapable of adding 6 items together.

I'll show you.
2016-2017:
$60,894,164 Roster signed
$925,000 Armalis*
$925,000 Meier*
$894,166 Goldobin*
~$900,000 From $759,166 Nieto
~$3,000,000 From $925,000 Hertl
~$67,538,330 Total

That's 21 (13/6/2) players and on Defense Mueller is included DeMelo is not, Just sub one for another*

Reports are the cap now is $71m could be $74m. Given Polak's $2.75m salary now and how he'll get a raise, let's say $3m.

That leaves no room, little room. Either way it's "almost financially impossible for this to happen." Which is what I said, but go on ahead and cry about things while providing no evidence to the contrary.

** Nieto get's a very small increase, the back up is Armalis and Hertl could get more money, DeMelo could make more than Mueller.

BTW giving Polak $3m will go over well on here.

my stubborn self says its hard to believe pitt was the better team heading into this series, but they truly are

so disappointed in our guys play, but you got to hand it to PITT, they completely shut us down. completely.

Im embarrassed because this was one of the lesser crazy SCF and I know we could have put up a way better fight.

This was probably our last chance in a damn good while.

Ill see ya guys thursday, but im anticipating the loss.

I have teared up a little in frustration. Not sure what else we can do. Just gotta take a game in Pittsburgh and hope for the best.

This is why I'm so disappointed. We are not even in the series, and getting to the Finals isn't exactly an easy task. Especially as I think our team isn't as good/deep next season.

Can we bench Paul Martin? He seems to have lost his memory on how to play defense.

Just wanted to say that he's a very good defenseman, very solid and this team is MUCH better with him than without.

But with that said, he's been miserable this finals. I expect it from Polak and Dillon, because they're not very good to begin with. But there's been quite a few playoffs where I've been disappointed with Martin. I remember some bad sequences in the playoffs with him on the Devils, some bad during the playoffs as a Penguin and now this series as a Shark.

Don't wanna bench him, certainly not before Polak or Dillon. But he needs to get his head out of his ass.

Welp, the series isn't over yet... But it's hard to see the Sharks take 3 straight the way they've been dominated this series. Here's the age-old question... Do you deal Jumbo and Patty this offseason? Trade value has to be high with the season they've had.

pretty much, i mean losing hertl with pavelski hurt ... that kind of luck is unbelievably bad and there is nothing anyone can do to prepare for that or account for that.

the pens are playing very well but i feel like this game was winnable and probably would have gone much differently with hertl in.

Sharks will force a game 7.

Love your optimism and wish I could feel the same way, I just haven't seen much at all this series to think that's possible. Team is just out of gas and has too many passengers that have pretty much been pedestrian for a better part of the playoffs. But the top 6 and power play going cold masked that.

Murray and Jones are gonna have to combine to steal a game again for us, like both did last game before tonight. Murray stunk and Jones was godlike. And it wasn't as bad as the shots indicated, with all the blocked shots the Pens had. But I still felt like they were the slightly better team that night.

Defensively we were good tonight, but couldn't break through the 21 shot on goal mark once again.

Can't bench him at this point, but out D has been playing like peewee hockey this series. Martin has definitely been terribad. But so has been everyone else. Do we need to keep re-building the D to get it done? Again?

Then look up what they gain if they trade off Wingels and Dillon. Both of those things are doable if they want to keep Polak for whatever reason. If I had to pick between Polak and Dillon, I'd probably take Polak but I'm not married to either of them. However, it most certainly is possible.

eh? shots were 24-20 sharks.

See I've got class a 7PM EST on Thursday. I was banking on them winning tonight and then I would have skipped 100%. But now I'm not sure. Either they turn it around and live another day or I skip class to watch us get eliminated.

I'll just attend class with faith that there will be a series to still watch when I get out.

Heat of the moment but I wish we lost to the Preds. They are a good fan base that deserves more. Let them or the Blues deal with the mainboards.

I just want to know what happened to the Sharks that kicked butt in the other 3 rounds of the playoffs? They are nowhere to be found.

Nah. I know what you mean but getting to the show is a nice feeling in itself. Losing it would be painful and certainly isn't going to do anything for the stereotypes associated with the team but it's still something. I just hope that if we can't win we at least push it to 6 games.
