Blue Jays Discussion: Save some runs for the other games, guys. (Jays score team record 28 runs in Friday night drubbing of Red Sox. Yes, that says 28. In one game)

Realigned outfield walls, bringing the seats to the wall, replacing 500 level seats, and tapering off some of the foul area are great improvements. Don't really care about the 500 patio or the right field bar but they'll be used so don't mind it. Elevated bullpen is interesting, any other similar examples around the league?

Biggest takeaway for me is how the new wall design and the removal of foul ground could really make this park into a joke for our offense. It's almost as if management looked at what the Yankees have with the short right field and made their own version to maximize our team strength.

Left field looks so much closer now. I guess they put the high bullpen fence because a trillion HR's will be hit by our team.

CF wall being lowered will be great for homeruns that would have just been doubles that hit middle to upper wall. Also many ground rule doubles will occur that might have been hit so hard it would just be a single or even runner thrown out at 2nd.

Having an actual back drop that allows hitters to read the pitches more accurately.

Taking away some foul ground (apparently Jays ranked #2 in foul ground area).

With our team being a power RH hitting team, looks like these changes will help our offense become even more dangerous.

The add under this post is priceless. I don’t think I can attach the screenshot. It looks like it kind of worked if you click on it I’m assuming that’s every cardinal fan reading that article LOL

Texas being in on Soto is interesting. Another darkhorse type candidate given they have 6 top 100 prospects currently and you have to assume ownership isn't scared to throw money around given what they did in the winter.

They're probably not far off from being back in the mix legitimately too.

The expert opinion is San Diego are the apparent front runners so I expect Soto to be a Dodger by deadlines end.

With how many deals San Diego does- I am surprised they ever have enough prospects left, but they always do.

It always seems like we give up so much more than teams like L.A, NY, and SD.

Sucks for Meyer. Top 5 of that draft was supposed to be one of the best and so far they have been awful.

Torkelson was great in the minors but slow start to his MLB career so far. Kjerstad had a heart issue causing him to miss the 2021 season. Killed A ball this year but he is 23 and is struggling in A+. Meyer was legit, just dominating the minors and made it up to AAA this season but now needs Tommy John. Lacy was supposed to be the best pitcher in the draft but has been horrid in the minors. 23 years old and was in rookie ball. He has walked 72 batters in 73 minor league innings. This season he has 31 walks to 25 Ks in 21 innings. And Austin Martin somehow got all around worse at everything; on base, defense, power went down. Kjerstad wasnt a top 100 prospect. Lacy and Martin dropped out of the top 100, Lacy was last year and Martin was recently. Meyer was one but after the surgery, he will likely be out. Torkelson was only the legit one with top 5 status.

It looks like the prospects taken 6-10 (Hancock, Gonzales, Hassell, Veen and Detmers) will outperform the 1-5 guys.

The Minnesota Twins acquire P Frankie Montas from the Oakland Athletics for OF Austin Martin, P Matt Canterino and P Simeon Woods Richardson

In the three-way fight for the AL Central, the Twins could use another starting pitcher, especially one who could return next season. Castillo fits the bill, but since I already sent him to the Cardinals, I can’t send him to the Twins also, or else the dream police may be coming to arrest me. ZiPS currently ranks the Twins as the No. 21 rotation in baseball, but adding Montas would bump that up to 13.

A lot of the shine has come off Martin as his power has not developed, but that’s less of a big deal for a team playing in the Corporate Name of the Year Coliseum (at least for now). One of Oakland’s strengths is its ability to churn out No. 2 starters at will, and I think the team could do well ironing out Canterino’s command and Woods Richardson’s lack of velocity.

This would be funny. Jays were bad in 2019 so they traded 1.5 years of Stroman for SWR and Kay and as a result landed a top 5 pick in Martin. Jays traded SWR and Martin for 1.5 years of Berrios to the Twins. Would be funny to see they Twins take Martin and SWR and trade them to Oakland for 1.5 years Montas.

What about his offensive performance do you believe is unsustainable?
I am no baseball savant (and do not pretend to be) but Danny Jansen is 27, oft-injured and in his 25GP currently has an OPS leaps and bounds above his career average established over 253GP.

If the pitchers truly indicate they need him to succeed - than fine, you keep him and ride this out.

If not, we have literally the top catcher in baseball and the top prospect in baseball, who happens to be a catcher - both under 24 years of age. Catcher is a coveted position in baseball. It seems like a no brainer to flip Jansen for a position of need while his value is this high.

I don't see how they close out the foul territory without making changes to the seathes next to the infields. Looking at the two pics above the infield currently has a curve and the future picture they straighten out the seating in the in-field. I didn't see it written in any articles that they will be working on infield changes. Unless I am wrong.

If I am the Jays and want to keep a little draft capital- I would deal for Bell (lefty) and Castillo plus a BP arm or two.

This addresses a lot of needs and won’t cost what Soto would (not that Soto wouldn’t be an incredible get) but you would give up a TON for him. The only thing is Bell is a rental, which sucks but maybe you get him a tad cheaper.

Injury risks aside, 27 is often a time where players are just entering their prime. We also can't throw away what he's worked on recently just based off the fact that he hit worse earlier in his career. A time where catchers most often spend working on their defensive duties. Not every top catcher comes up and rakes like Will Smith.

They are, those details aren't being released yet.

Here's the seat map for next season. A few things to note:
1) I doubt the dimensions of the field are exact but you can get a bit of a feel
2) it looks like all sections will now be between aisles rather than centred on aisles (Section 513L/R will now be simply Section 513)...

Ryan Wolstat who works for the Sun is saying while Shapiro was announcing the Reno plans for Rogers Centre he also mentioned that ownership has given the green light on an expanded payroll. Looks like with all this action with the stadium and the plans for a new stadium down the road in the next decade, the organization wants to win now.

If you add in the costs for these Renos and the probability of paying Vladdy 400+ million dollars in a few years with a competitive roster…. Add in new stadium hypothetically in 10 years. Rogers is really starting to show their financial might.

It just sucks that back then they decided to build this kind of a multipurpose stadium instead of a baseball only park. Only 3 years before Camden Yards opened and that’s a gorgeous baseball park. I was only 4 years old at the time when the opened the Dome, so of course I have no idea about what kind of design was popular in the late 80s. I just wish we had a nice ballpark like a Camden Yards in Baltimore, that’s all. With a roof, of course.

They got caught in-between eras on the design.

It's basically the last of the 1960s/70s cookie-cutter all-purpose stadiums except with a futuristic roof.

Camden Yards re-defined how baseball stadiums were built and basically made the Skydome obsolete when it was only 3 years old.

He doesn't have to be the 140 wRC+ guy he has been this year to be extremely valuable to the team, even with Kirk around. He had a 105 wRC+ last year, which made him one of the better catchers in the league.

The injury concerns are real, but the beauty of having two star-calibre catchers (both of whom are hitting well enough to DH when needed) is that you can withstand an injury to one of them.

Shapiro and Atkins have been on a cheap, losing organization for years with Cleveland. Now they have a great team, have ownership support and money to spend. With less playoffs spots and a less talented team, the Jays made a splash last deadline with Berrios. Now they have better odds with the extra spot, money and star players available. These guys have been waiting for this moment all their career.

I predict they will make a huge splash this deadline, like Soto/Ohtani or Castillo/Rodon with other players, likely rentals - this may be a 2015 type deadline. Its possible they strikeout at the deadline but i dont think they are setting their sights on depth and rentals. They have a near complete lineup and 4 starters they can trust, team doesnt have a lot of holes. They will go for it.

That being said, there are some good rentals out their you can add with secondary pieces like Syndergaard, Quintana, Robertson etc.
