Blue Jays Discussion: Save some runs for the other games, guys. (Jays score team record 28 runs in Friday night drubbing of Red Sox. Yes, that says 28. In one game)

Same source that broke Toman would go to Jays at 77, so it's a lock.

I think there's a good argument for trading for Castillo.

I would rank Manoah ahead of him currently but at the same time there's a chance he could be the teams best pitcher.

If you put Manoah, Castillo and Gausman 1-2-3 in a series, is there really any teams out there that you can certainly say that have a much better front 3 starters?

You pair that up with our explosive offense that is getting better as the season goes along, I don't think many teams even the Yankees would want to face us in a series.

The trade posted by the Athletic the other day is very underweight imo (Groshan/Zulueta) and I would give up more.

Trade for Castillo and add 1-2 high velocity BP arms and we could be very tough out for NY or HOU.

As much as I want another middle of the order .900’ops type of bat, I tend to agree we should target a front end starter and bullpen arm. I think this could make the biggest impact.

Based on what I've seen of Schneider, I think our needs have shifted a little.

It's only been a while, but we've already seen a better use of the bench/BP. Montoyo would do planned days off on the same day as unplanned (instead of delaying a day). Romano was constantly used for no reason.

We have 10 1fWAR+ regulars and Tapia has gained almost that much in the past month. He isn't afraid to tweak if something doesn't work and he isn't afraid to sit the kids down and try to teach them when needed. In terms of hitters, I would take Soto if the price was right, but I don't think it's a need. The other move on that front I would consider (and I'm not sure it is worth it) would be that if we could find someone with Zimmer's speed and D who was a slightly better hitter, then that would be good.

On the pitching side, we have 4 guys that I am comfortable with and then Kikuchi. He'll be back soon and I think that we need to have an honest look at his next start. If things don't change, he needs to be traded with another starter brought in (I'd circle back around to Marquez who is having a rough year).

We have a few relievers who are doing well. Richards has the swing and miss and multiple inning ability that lengthens our pen. The issue has always been the next guy. Richards can be moved around if he's struggling (mop up duty, for example), but that's harder when you are carrying weaker relievers. Those guys are the guys that we need to upgrade IMO. A Scott Barlow could be good. As well, Detroit has a pen where they should move an arm (Chafin, Fullmer, Soto) to fill other needs. If we moved Kikuchi, I'd even be willing to retain to get a reliever from Detroit.

In a perfect world, accountability causes Kikuchi to smarten up and actually listen to the coaching staff. Then we only really need to tackle the BP.

This is a good take.

My wish list would be:

1. Front of the rotation starter - limit the current unpredictability
2. 1-2 SO heavy bp arms
3. Better hitting OF option

What I don't want are some of the guys I've seen mentioned who would need to DH regularly...I am looking at you, Josh Bell.

It's hard to judge needs and weaknesses when guys like Guirriel JR, Epsinal, Tapia and Stripling are all performing so well over the last few weeks.

Yimi G has been one of the best relievers in baseball is you remove the 2 blow ups. Even with them, he's been very good. Yimi-Cimber-Romano is a nice group, but I'd like to see a bit more depth.

Yes, some good relievers would be great but I want to go big game hunting for starting pitching and let's get those rings.

Starting pitching still the #1 option for me. Even with the Berrios/Stripling being decent I would love another front-end arm to go with Manoah/Gausman in a three game series. And then based on the turnaround (assuming WC round goes the distance) you're still going to need one of Berrios/Stripling to start G1 in New York.

e: clearly I haven't been following the rest of the league that much since when is Houston so close to the 1 seed...

Yankees have been playing at .500 for about a month now.

Bill Burr on Ortiz having his number retired is pretty hilarious:

“I can’t believe they’re retiring this guy’s number. He’s a f****** DH. Retiring a DH’s number is like putting a vice president on Mount Rushmore. The man barely played a game.

“One time somebody asked David, ‘Hey, what’s it like to play professional baseball?’ He said, ‘It’s a lot like waiting for a bus, except once every 40 minutes you stand up and ground out to second.’”
