Blue Jays Discussion: Save some runs for the other games, guys. (Jays score team record 28 runs in Friday night drubbing of Red Sox. Yes, that says 28. In one game)

I have a crazy trade proposal, but bear with me.

Bichette (24) + throw-in for Reynolds (27) + Bednar (27) + Prospect/Player

Rationale for Toronto:

We need a good lefty bat and late-inning bullpen help.

Reynolds is a power-hitting, switch-hitter who can play center field (although his defense this year has declined). He's good for at least 3WAR per year and put up 6WAR last season. He's only 27 so in the prime of his career, and still has 4 years of team control left.

Bednar is one of the best closers in baseball right now. He has strikeout stuff and could spell Jordan Romano when he needs rest. He's 27, not arb eligible until 2024, and has 5 years of team control remaining.

Bichette is a great young offensive player, but he's also not very good defensively. We could slot Espinal in at shortstop and actually improve from a defensive standpoint. Espinal will not replace his offensive potential, but he's shown he can contribute at least league average offense if not better, and whatever offense we lose at short we gain from Reynolds.

The third piece imo is necessary to even out value but I'm not sure which direction to go. We could target a prospect with potential like Ji-hwan Bae or Anthony Solometo, a young post-hype starter like Mitch Keller, or veteran starter like Jose Quintana to give us rotation depth (granted, Quintana is more smoke and mirrors than stuff now).

Acquiring Reynolds allows us to possibly move one of Teo or Gurriel for a top starter with Springer moving to RF and Reynolds to CF.

The Toronto throw-in could be any prospect type we have in excess and don't really need or a player really far away.

Rationale for Pittsburgh:

Bo is an all-star caliber, former 5WAR player, who fits Pittsburgh's rebuild timeline perfectly at only 24 years of age.

Their front office would know him well since they used to be ours. He has 4 years of team control left, but is arb eligible in 2023.

Pitt could probably get a bunch of prospects for these veterans but Bo is already established and still young with lower risk. He's arguably the best player they could get in a trade, and they're able to get him for two veterans who won't be part of their rebuild anyway.

I'm pretty sure Bo has three years left... same as Reynolds.

I honestly don't think this makes sense for either side. I like Reynolds, but the Jays need an OF a lot less than they need a SS right now. If you want a guy like Bednar, just make it a simple deal for prospects.

As an offseason move, I guess I can kind of see it if you want to shake things up. But during the season I don't love the idea of shuffling all kinds of parts around to address what should be a pretty straightforward hole.

Toronto Blue Jays

(2/77) 15. Tucker Toman, 3B, Hammond HS (SC) (45 FV)
(1/23) 16. Brandon Barriera, LHP, American Heritage HS (FL) (45 FV)
(2/78) 53. Cade Doughty, 3B, LSU (40+ FV)
(2/60) 82. Josh Kasevich, SS, Oregon (40 FV)
(20/608) 132. Greg Pace Jr., CF, Edison HS (MI) (40 FV)
(3/98) 173. Alan Roden, 1B, Creighton (35+ FV)
(13/398) 243. Bo Bonds, RHP, Louisiana (35+ FV)
(5/158) 260. Mason Fluharty, LHP, Liberty (35+ FV)
(7/218) 286. Peyton Williams, 1B, Iowa (35+ FV)
(9/278) HM. Deveraux Harrison, RHP, Long Beach State
(6/188) HM. T.J. Brock, RHP, Ohio State

Barriera was a nice find at 23rd overall for the Jays. Again, I'm generally more scared than teams by hard-throwing prep pitchers up high, but Barriera comes with a long track record of health and performance along with four pitches that flash plus and a unique personal story. Toman was ranked one spot ahead of him on my list as one of my picks to click and somehow lasted until the late second round, in one of the coups of the draft. Pace is the last prep pick of note and will be a tough sign but is an 80 runner with an improving offensive game.

On the college bat end of things we have Doughty (long track record of hitting, second/third-base fit, no plus tool), Kasevich (hit-over-power type with a good approach that is a definite infield fit even if it might not be shortstop), Roden (a likely corner fit with elite bat-to-ball and some raw power) and Williams (data-friendly exit velos and pitch selection, limited margin for error given the position).

On the college pitching side we have Fluharty (data-friendly shape to above-average fastball/slider in a relief fit), Harrison (college reliever might be able to start in pro ball with solid-average four-pitch mix), Brock (older reliever sits in the mid-90s with a plus slider but well below-average command) and Bonds (juco transfer has a data-friendly fastball and above-average curve, but fits in relief).

A couple trades I saw posted on Baseball trade values that looked interesting.

Hi all, I’m in Toronto this weekend on holiday, I wanted to go to a game but unfortunately they’re out of town, but can anyone recommend a good place to buy a Jays jersey downtown? Or is the price pretty well the same everywhere? I’d be looking for a blank replica, don’t necessarily need or want any player numbering. Thanks!

I definitely want me some Gregory Soto. If they want to add a lefty depth guy I'd do Perez if he is that cheap. Not sure how he is doing it but he's been good this year.

I'd prefer Mahle, but still not vaccinated I don't think so would need commitment to getting it.

Ideal would be get like Soto, Castillo and maybe one lesser pen piece or a lefty bat while everyone else tries to outbid each other for Soto. Pounce while they're distracted, ha.

Would Montas come cheaper now with his injuries? And would we want to risk it?

You certainly won't be getting any deal (price wise) in downtown Toronto.

That being said, you can go to the Jays Shop right in Rogers Center, Gate 5 I believe.

While I'm happy with the Jays newfound aggressiveness in pushing prospects when they're dominating, I don't know about pushing Zulueta to the bullpen this year. He has great velocity but he still needs to make some gains with his command and hasn't dominated AA yet.

I look back at a guy like Miguel Castro who was one of our best pitching prospects in 2015 and coming off a dominant year in A ball. We were desperate for bullpen help in a competing year so we promoted him and Osuna to the big leagues. Osuna ended being fine thanks to his combination of stuff and command, but Castro's career basically imploded and he's only recently put it together at the major league level five years later.

I get that Zulu is 24 already but I think he needs one more year and off season to get the most out of his arm.

So is Logan Warmoth pretty much a bust at this point?

More than likely yes, but sometimes guys flip the switch in their late 20s and become productive players in the bigs. Ryan Schimpf and Jon Berti as former Jays come to mind. At this point it’s looking like he’ll never be a legitimate callup option though.

What’s a “developmental list”
It seems like it's a catch-all for players being away from their team for various reasons: time off, developing part of their game, etc. Here's a piece about the Cubs and their use of the development list.

What Is the Development List?

For example, in the case of Tiederman, it might be to give him a break or maybe they're working on making adjustments (changing or adding a pitch) to his pitching.

I think he got better as the game went on. He has his three walks before the end of the second inning.
First batter of the game;

Two of those could have been strikes.

First batter of the 2nd inning;

Just missed his last 2 pitches.

Next batter:

Definitely got squeezed. Should have been a strike out 4 times. Threw 6 strikes and 4 were called balls and got the walk.

Anyone read about Dante Bichette Jr's Instagram Q&A? Yeah.... I don't want senior anywhere near the f***ing team. That poor family.
