Blue Jays Discussion: Save some runs for the other games, guys. (Jays score team record 28 runs in Friday night drubbing of Red Sox. Yes, that says 28. In one game)

Sounds like the Jays are having a good draft. If they can sign these picks, it definitely makes you feel more comfortable about making a big trade by the deadline (which I was already comfortable doing anyway!)

Just for fun I looked up where he ranks this season for any minor league pitchers that have pitched 60+ innings at any level (U21 rank in brackets). There are 415 pitchers that qualified:

ERA - 13th (1st)
FIP - 4th (1st)
xFIP - 6th (1st)
K% - 5th (2nd)
BB% - T-274th
Kk-BB% - 7th (3rd)
AVG - T-2nd (1st)
WHIP - T-4th (1st)

I mean is it fair to say he's had the best season of any minor league pitching prospect in the league? He's easily having the best U21 season with only Kyle Harrison (who's almost exactly 1 year older) within spitting distance. Imagine if he can clean up the walks (which aren't even bad)?

I thought the Jays were suppose to be unreal this season.... Whats going on?
I also just noticed they are 50-43 thats pretty good isnt it?

Dylan Rock

Has played 213 Division I games… batting .322 (255-for-792) with 190 runs, 54 doubles, four triples, 29 home runs, 148 RBI, 117 walks, and 39 stolen bases… other career statistics include a .510 slugging percentage and a .427 on-base percentage.

The rotation and bullpen have underperformed and been injured. The big bats aside from Kirk are also having a down year. They will be unreal as soon as either the pitching stabilizes a bit or Vlad/Bo eat up.

can the Jays pay Vlad, Bichette, and Soto to long-term deals? Would Rogers be willing to have at least 2 of the largest contracts in baseball on their team?

It's taken me about 30 minutes to try to type this message because ever since the recent update the box you type your message into has been missing about 90% of the time. It's absolutely infuriating. ^The quoted message above was me trying to quote a message to see if I could go back and edit it as a means to post. Spoiler: that didn't work either.

Anyway, I'm a little bit disappointed in the number of seemingly punted picks today. I knew some were coming because of the overslot guys yesterday but just about every pick today seems like it's under slot. Not completely punting 5k kind of signings for all of them. But I was hopeful we'd be able to get some guys around slot today and punt maybe 2 or 3 picks.

Based on our picks today Barriera and Toman are going to be PAID. However, I can see us taking a couple highly ranked fallbacks for insurance in rounds 11-20 to use any excess money on.

Doing that as a 19 yr old the year after you're drafted and getting promoted up to AA by the all star break. That screams special talent. They need to not trade this kid.

Bo would be the one the move if they had the three. I also don't think Bo is going to get the dollars some think. His defence is not good and his bat has cooled down.

I find it weird that we drafted two guys that profile as first baseman. I don't see the value in that even in a punted pick. The last first baseman they should have just punted on a pitcher but I guess it doesn't matter much

I don't think Bo gets a 6 figure contract but still in line for a decent pay increase.

Jays talked about a lefty bat one of the premier bats in the game is available plus you know his contract terms just can't backload the deal. Jays have the prospects and mlb players to pull it off.

Interesting strategy by the Jays. Adding a lot of hard-throwing strikeout guys who look to be reliever only. We don't have a lot of these kinds of arms in our system, they're not expensive to sign in the draft, and if even one of them becomes a high-level closer or setup guy that's a big win. Hopefully, we can grab a few more from the undrafted bin, since teams focus much of their scouting and resources on guys that project to be starters or at least have a chance to be.
