Blue Jays Discussion: Save some runs for the other games, guys. (Jays score team record 28 runs in Friday night drubbing of Red Sox. Yes, that says 28. In one game)

How bad is the Corbin contract?

I think it's important to note that Soto is actually younger than Bo.

I like Moreno a lot as a prospect, but the dropoff from Kirk to Moreno is massive.

You're also not replacing Bo with Soto... you're replacing an OF (probably Gurriel) with Soto and replacing a Bo/Espinal/Biggio with Espinal/Biggio/whoever in the middle infield. That's also a massive dropoff.

I realize how good Soto is, but I don't think making multiple significant downgrades to a very good lineup is worth it, especially considering years of control. If that's what Washington insists on and you can't get it done with top prospects and secondary roster pieces, I would gladly move on to someone a tier or two down (like Bryan Reynolds) where you can add a player without losing a ton of current value elsewhere.
So far...as in Kirk has actually had the chance to play full-time this year and show what he's capable of. If someone told you at the beginning of the season that the Jays could get Soto on the condition that they include Kirk, I highly doubt you would oppose that. Moreno hasn't had that opportunity yet. Going into this year it's not like people thought of Kirk as they do now. Losing Kirk sucks, I'd rather they take Moreno but if the worst case scenario is they want Kirk, that's not something that would hold up the deal for me. The Jays have Jansen, Moreno and Kirk, moving on with two of the 3 is more than enough at the C position.

I also think you're understating the difference going from a Gurriel to a guy like Soto. I'd say it's more significant than whoever they would add to the infield after that. You have to realize that while moving Bo might hurt the depth of the lineup, it could also potentially improve the defence at SS with Espinal going there as Bo is no gold glover out there.

Furthermore, it would add more balance to the lineup as they Jays don't really have a power lefty bat, they're primarily righties.

Two teams that love Canadians just took some Canadians;

Milwaukee took Dylan O''Rae in the 3rd round.
Padres took Lamar King Jr. a few picks ago, 120 overall. Dad played in the NFL. Padres took Owen Cassie in 2020 and traded him for Blake Snell.
Braves took David McCabe 125

Jays take RHP Ryan Jennings, Louisiana Tech (LA) (not ranked) with their 4th round pick. College Senior.

-Reliever
-Funky arm action
-Usually pitches in the low 90s but can get up in the high 90s at times
-Good curveball

some are saying we may save damn near the whole slot with that last pick but take that for what you will the social media verse is wrong a lot lol

a poster on jays aggregate had this to say

Struck out 95 in 90.1 innings

Also seems intelligent - made the conference Commissioner's honor roll each of the last 3 years.

Wouldn't be surprising. These middle rounds were AA's 5K senior sign specialties and Atkins has done that a few times too (Cal Stevenson a known example). Sometimes you can even hit on them, with Kendall Graveman being a prime example.

Think they save ~700k between these two picks today. That's almost enough to cover the Barriera slot I think (he was expected to go mid 1st which was ~1m more than at 23). Then Toman probably got 2m, don't know if they saved much from the Kasevich/Doughty deals so they'll likely need a few more of these.

If we were talking about Kirk and prospects for Soto, that would be different. But the discussion was Bichette and Kirk. I just have no interest in that and would happily pivot to Moreno for Reynolds or something like that.

would love to find some giant lhp or rhp

noah samul
chase shores
colby holcome
are a few of the top ones still available

Matt Smoral!
damn you i forgot about him. at one point i thought he would be a monster for us

Also, we arent necessarily looking to add Soto with the intention of signing him to $400+ million. We would be acquiring him for 2.5 seasons of Guerrero like production in the hopes we can win a ton of games int he next 3 years.

I mean there's also the fact that Soto inherently makes this team way deadlier and the draw of watching arguably the two best young hitters in the league who have been nigh generational would be an insane revenue draw for ticket sales, let alone the potential to contend for a world series. If I'm the Jays, I do whatever it takes besides adding Vladdy or Manoah (the only two untouchables) to a potential trade.
