Sather Speaks

Not for nothing, it wasn't Lundmark's lack of work ethic that did him in here, it was Messier's 2nd run with us(2000-04) during which he was stealing 20+ minutes a nite icetime as an old, useless player who should have retired when Gretzky did!

I saw Jamie practice after Phoenix sent him down to the minors not NY so I do not think Messier had any significant role in it. I think Jamie only played 2 seasons with Mess. Jamie just was not as good as we hoped. That 1999 draft year was a major disappointment for most teams (outside of Vancouver). Jamie is still only 32 years old and I think he may still be playing. He has been given a shot to play for multiple teams. It comes to a point where you produce or you do not. Maybe the hit on the knee that another poster mentioned played a role in his career. I do root for him though because anyone that plays all over the globe must enjoy the game.
