Five games have passed and nothing has changed. Unreal to have this bad of a stretch twice in a season. I've had stuff get in the way over the last few weeks so I haven't been able to watch too much but when I have it's been bad. Those games may end up costing the Sting but most teams in the league lose games that they shouldn't.
Oshawa had a five-game losing streak around this time last year where they lost to bottom-tier teams like Flint, Kingston, Niagara, and Owen Sound. They still went on to the OHL Finals. Bad habits can rear their ugly head for any team at any point.
It's the coaches job to get them back on track. If we don't see improvement in the next four/five games then I'd be willing to hit the panic button.
Flint still has BFD, LDN, SAG (x3), and WSR on their schedule. It's fairly similar to Sarnia's so I don't see them building up their lead because of that. 6th will be dependant on who plays better down the stretch and how the three remaining games between the Firebirds/Sting play out
I was at the SAG game and boy was that 3rd period a waste of time and money. They barely touched the puck for the first 15 minutes. After SAG made it 5-2, I was looking for who was still in the game. I saw two players. 16 yr old Ryder Simpson was energetic + physical and I saw Young giving it to someone on the bench. That was what really set me off with Letang. If you can't get guys to play for each other then you've lost the locker room.
I watched the last two periods tonight. They were heavily outshot and only had a few offensive chances. I looked at the lines before the game and they were in the blender by the third lol. Hung their goalie out to dry in the final minute again. Must be three or four times that they've done that this year. I'm impressed the compete level of Maillet & Surzycia considering how often they're hung out to dry.
Vets looked out of it. Doucette & Filak have been awfully quiet since making their NCAA committments. Your captain sets the tone and Fischer was not there. Took two bad penalties, one of which led to the game-tying goal. He should be taking over games like this not blending into the background.
The next coaching staff needs to have no prior connection to the Sting. Failure breeds more failure and that's all the team has been doing for ages. This team has young talent and can be a winner with proper coaching so for once please don't hire the cookie cutter option. Be different like Kitchener was when they hired Ahokas
