Caps need a veteral goalie for playoffs and Samsonov is not looking like a winning choice. Could Kraken trade Grubauer or Chicago Fleury for Samsonov?

Why in the world would you trade a 24 year old promising goalie for some sort of a veteran rental ?

His record this year is 13-5-3 when Vanecek is 10-6-5.
I think most Caps fans would say, VV is the more reliable option.

That said, I agree with the premise, no way we trade Sammy for a pure rental.

I thought he was supposed to he the terror of the division the next 5 years? Why are Caps fans giving up on him?

Lol Samsonov is the future. Caps would be stupid to trade him.

Trade Vanecek for Fleury or something if Samsonov needs another year.

This still makes me laugh. Samsonov has a .903 sv% with 3 shutouts. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to see that past those 3 games, he has not been good at all. The Caps may win anyway. The Caps give up the fewest shots in the league. Meanwhile Vanecek has been consistent for 2 seasons. He has improved steadily.

1 goalie plays well. 1 goals plays badly. The result? Trade the goalie playing well?

How does that make any sense?

For whom? Islanders, Washington, you or the Original Post/er?

Islanders - not sure if it does, was spitballing.

Washington - not sure it does, because it’s not my place to pretend I know the nuance of their circumstances.

You - see Washington above

OP - It satisfies the criteria somewhat (extra year may be a sticking point). Satisfying the original post WAS my primary focus.

Personally I think it would be a mistake to sell so low on Sammy. He might not be quite ready for a full time starter role, but he has shown flashes of brilliance, and has absolutely no leash. How is a young player in any position supposed to gain any confidence if they keep sitting him after a loss? Not that he's been great his last 4 games but his team has scored all of 7 goals during those starts.

If Caps don't want him, Edmonton will take him in a heartbeat.

I'd personally take Vanecek over Samsonov.

Varly is playing no better than Vanecek is right now and with another at $5m is a cap issue. Its great for the Islanders. They get out from under a $5m back up goalie and they get a 1st picked young goalie.

I doubt Washington has any interest here

You are kidding, right? You are thinking that Samsonov is being treated badly? In January with a struggling team, Vanecek has a 2.0gaa and a .929sv %. In December his gaa is 2.42 with a .920%. 10 starts. In January Samsonov was 3.84 and .876. In December was 2.65 and .894. 10 starts

Samsonov has admitted that he is having trouble adjusting to the lifestyle. He has trouble with the language. He has had trouble being a professional hockey player at almost every level. His track record is consistent. I doubt the Caps give up on him but I would be shocked if to keep him they dumped the hard working, reliable player that the other guy has proven to be
