The guy's been at it for 40 years and you gotta go back to a Mick Vukota a call for an example? That's my point. He lost his cool, he called Vukota a jerk!, but not that i blame him.

In fairness, I am the one who brought it up.The guy's been at it for 40 years and you gotta go back to a Mick Vukota a call for an example? That's my point.
You can't do all this in the space and time allowed on a pregame, and then expect the guy to go call the game and the team to go play. I feel like Every time the team honors a player and retires a jersey, the team plays like shit. You can't do that in a game you must win in a playoff fight. I hope the team does right by Sam, but it doesn't need to be during this season.Looking back on it I really think Sam deserved a better ceremony. I would have liked John Davidson to speak to the Garden crowd. I would have enjoyed seeing a banner with Sam's likeness from the WeBleedBlue shirt with "IT'S A POWER PLAY GOAL!!! SAM ROSEN : VOICE OF THE RANGERS 1984-2025" lifted up to the ceiling. Former players on the ice with Sam. A current player like Chris Kreider, the longest tenured player on the team, present Sam with the jersey.
I felt the Rangers could've done more. But Rick Carpiniello told me they might be waiting to do something a bit more special next season during the Centennial. We'll see.
I always liked Jim Gordon. Met him a few times and he was a great guy. Strange thing - I was listening to old Beatles stuff years ago, a WINS news broadcast from outside the Plaza Hotel in February 1964. It was Jim Gordon on the scene.I think it's also that Sam is a humble guy and doesn't want much of the focus on him. Seems to fit his personality.
I'm really happy he gave Al Trautwig a shoutout yesterday. We all miss Al. I would've loved if he mentioned Bob Page, Bruce Beck, Bill Daughtry, Mike Quick, and Mike Crispino. All those guys were important to MSG.
Curious what Bob Page has to say on Twitter.
The Sam press conference pregame was really interesting. A few things I didn't know:
-Jim Gordon was a role model/mentor for Sam
-MSG told Sam in 1984 that they were going to replace Gordon and either Sam took the job or they were going to give it to someone else and how Sam felt conflicted replacing his mentor (interesting Gordon also was replaced in 1993 by Bob Papa for the Giants radio. He was a legend and I don't want to make assumptions but some old school fans and Artie Lang is his comedy skits mentioned that Jim had some issues with drinking).
-Sam and Joe first worked together on ESPN in the 1990s and was a factor in them hiring Joe in 2006. I have no recollection of this. I remember the Fox puck glowing era but more with JD.
-Lavi mentioned getting to know Sam in the early 2000s when he coached the Islanders. I'm surprised they didn't first interact in 1988 when Lavi played a dozen games with the Rangers or even in training camp during the Roger Neilson years because Lavi was in the Rangers organization for four years.
its not a knock at sam, i actually like him but everyone does blow their cool. The guy's been at it for 40 years and you gotta go back to a Mick Vukota a call for an example? That's my point.
Youth hasn’t been all it’s cracked up to be around here.I'm a big supporter of Alex Faust for the job. We need youth.
I grew listening to Jim Gordon and have long felt he was the best Ranger announcer ever. He had a great way of rising to the occasion as the action dictated. He was also a nice man to talk to and his career success influenced my decision to attend Syracuse University. Jim always wished the best for the Rangers (3 on 2 if they hurry) but he also lived through some difficult times.I think it's also that Sam is a humble guy and doesn't want much of the focus on him. Seems to fit his personality.

Still trying to figure out why Steve Mears got fired from Pittsburgh. He was a million times better than Paul Steigerwald.
No shade, but both Sam and John Davidson seem like the kind of guys who still have VCRs and they still blink 12:00, 12:00, 12:00, 12:00.Sam was on Vince Mercogliano's podcast today and said him and John Davidson are in early discussions on doing a podcast together after retirement. I would love that so much!
MSG has to do the right thing and bring JD into the booth for the final game this season (which happens to be at home).
Same length. Actually even longer because one season didn't exist 20 years ago.Wild that Joe has been Sam’s partner for almost as long as JD was.

Nothing that happens on the internet matters. People of actual intelligence, influence, and understanding in this business know what Sam Rosen's legacy is. Pencil dick teenagers in Florida posting some Gen Z hierarchy meme mean nothing.![]()
