2023 or 2024 1st?
Zito will likely want a 2023 1st.

Florida need C prospects up front or good defensive defense prospects.

IMO, Reinhart should be moved in either two ways.
Either a top 4 LD of similar contract status or a good futures package (1st + 2nd/good prospect) which maybe used to help move a retained Bobrovsky.

unless Florida is getting a Lottery pick or the 1st OV pick itself it doesn't make sense to trade their good players for picks. a player from this draft that becomes "something" two to three seasons from now isn't what they need. They would need basically ready prospects going there way and pretty good ones.

Holtz+ Gritsyuk/Mukhamadullin + Bahl/Okhotyuk

Reinhart

That's a pretty large overpay from NJ.

If Holtz is going to Florida, the ++ won't be pieces like Gritsyuk/Mukhamadullin/Bahl/Okhotiuk. It would have to be be something more minor like Nolan Foote or Misyul or Tyce Thompson.

It would have to be a 3 team deal with money from NJ going somewhere else. I don’t think they can take that cap hit even with Johnsson moving out.

They can facilitate the deal by sending Johnsson the other way. 750K cap hit this season. Shouldn't even cost an additional asset to move. Just a player to include to facilitate the trade.

According to CapFriendly, the Devils have $390K in cap space. They have not been accumulating any space this season since they're leaning into LTIR.

Johnsson's contract counts as $2.275M against the cap, so there's still another $3.835M or so that NJ needs to clear out - which basically means that the Devils need to move out Tatar or Severson as well (or multiple other players). For a 2nd line center that would be getting 3rd line minutes in NJ, while creating another hole somewhere else.

Not sure why this really makes sense for the Devils.

I think there are other deals out there that could work better for NJ than Reinhart. I just dont think he is what we need , especially considering what it would cost to get him.
This is not even considering the Panthers side of a trwde , where I cant see them moving him unless it was for an overpay and helped their D core? At best , a long shot they move him.
I’d way rather go big and try for Meier . He is more what we need.
High volume shooter that is a proven finisher and can play a heavy style game .

Ah, so it wouldn't work cap wise. Good call.

However, Reinhart would be coming to NJ to play with Hughes or Hischier. Not to play on the 3rd line

I would love Meier too, but with his contract status so up in the air, it's tough to gauge what a trade would look like and if it would even make sense.

For all we know, he has full intentions of either: A. Taking his 10 million qualifying offer and heading straight to UFA in summer 2024, or B. Not getting qualified by Team X and heading straight to UFA this summer.

So it's tough.

With Reinhart, you at least know you have him for 2 playoff runs at a fair $6.5 million.
