OT: 2025 News Around The NHL Thread - Free Agent Frenzy

Ya I wont buy to this rumour mill going on.

Best case scenario is Bennett being a Panther for years to come, but at what cost 🤔

Nobody is going to pay him $10 million. He is a 50 point scorer (once), who brings intangibles in the playoffs. The teams that can pay him $10 million are not going to require those intangibles, as they will most likely miss the playoffs, and any top team that will pay him $10 million will likely have that deal eat a good chunk of their cap space, and will ultimately regret it later on. Carolina does make sense to go higher than what we will have to offer, but again, not for $10 million per. That is just bad cap management.

I DO NOT want him to leave, because he is a favorite of mine, there has to be a line Zito will not cross. I trust Zito will do what is best for the team at the end.

Someone is going to offer a stupid amount of money for Bennett and with the postseason he’s had I can’t say I’d blame him for taking it. But zito can’t excessively overpay so he’s in a tight spot. If nothing else we should be able to keep Marchy if Bennett walks

Isn't the rumour that the offer is the same as Carter Verhaghe's? If so, that is fine by me. If he wants more, he will be off to UFA. You will have a lot of teams drooling over him after this most recent playoff run.

Sam strikes me as a team guy. I can’t see wanting to leave this awesome team & organization just for a million or 2 more. I mean, he has already made milllions and won a cup here and he’s a key player. Why give that up?

I think that if another playoff team offers him significantly more money, he's probably going to take it. And tbh, that's what he should do. He has a limited shelf life as a pro hockey player and this is going to be his one big payday. He needs to maximize the value.

Obviously, he's the kind of competitor that I doubt he'd go to a bad team that wants him to meet the salary floor, but he needs to get paid.
