The Sabres are going into the season currently missing a top 6 winger AND a real third line center. What are some realistic trade targets available now that the frenzy is over? Let's assume any player with even a 3 team NMC has buffalo on it. GM's job is on the line he needs to add something significant.

I would structure any deal as pick (1st or 2nd 2025), prospect, Krebs/Jokiharju.

If we are trading joki we need a rhd maybe we could sign walker but we have talent and depth at the wings the only trade that makes sense is krebs+25 1st+ostlund as a base for the 3c upgrade that should be enough to get a quality center that could be 3c or slide up into top 7 minutes if need be. Our top 9 wings:
Peterka - tuch
Benson - Quinn
zucker - Greenway
We would be putting one of Lafferty, aube-kubel or Malenstyn in the press box if we got another top 9 Winger Greenway is a good suppression player with size and good skating he could also be used as a possession forechecking guy and isn't a bad option for being the defensive conscience on a 3rd line just doesn't produce the offense you want but getting a more than capable 3c would fix that. Ironically enough I feel like zucker-mitts-greenway would have the makings of a great 3rd line

I think a first Krebs and Ostlund might feel a bit steep but if that's a high end 3C that can be a low end 2C in a pinch I like it. It's such a big need I might just like it if it's an average one.

Idk how Ruff feels about "handedness" in D but the team never really cared and some LD play RD for us.

Keeping Mitts would have been great, but trading for Byram is equally fine, as long as you then add the replacement.

That is where I am at I like Rosen and ostlund a lot actually and feel they get underrated due to being behind kulich, savoie, and now helenius but a low end 2c would be worth it preferably a vet who is good on faceoffs with decent offense have no idea who that player is but we need it for a full push. I like Krebs as well think he has a lot more offense to give but he won't unlock that as a 3c here I'm afraid Thompson and cozens are the same age so its not like he is being molded for atop six c role here but he is a good enough 4c energy guy right now feel like he would do a lot better with a clear path. He could be an excellent 3c especially with ruff giving him direction as he is a hardworking player with a never die attitude he has decent skills but plays a bit too tense and ends up getting caught in the flurry of play

There was some talk yesterday on Twitter that Necas trade talk is picking up again and you were one of 4 teams mentioned. (Sabres, Kings, Caps, Jets)

I'm not sure I want to consider someone calling themselves "Incarcerated Bob" credible even if they do seem connected...and I have no idea what that deal would look like since it seems absolutely unlikely Carolina would take back Krebs, Jokiharju, or Rosen and your 1st would be likely worse in 2025 because your team is better. Likewise, you're not making a move with a piece in your current top-6.

Anyways, food for conversation, I guess.

Nik Ehlers was rumored to not want to extend past this season (despite chevy's recent comments about him being a big part of the team moving forward)

Also, everyone is aware of the McGroarty issue (projects to be top six, and apparently wants to be there now)

Not sure what Chevy's ask is for one (or both packaged together). Obviously, Ehlers' value is dependent on whether or not he comes with an extension agreed upon

Oh god. Bob has been around forever and is exactly as connected as posters on this board.

He's not.

I can't see him making the team, but if Owen Beck does show he's ready and honestly, even if he's not the Habs might have Dvorak(not really a might, he is) and he wouldn't be worth much. Like a 4th if full cap is taken. Might even get a 4th for taking him on.

The more valuable one would be Evans. Evans is a defensive specialist that has skill to produce offensively. If given better linemates/more ice time away from being shorthanded he could increase his numbers. Not like Danault, but increase his points.

Minus Krebs (unless you want Wahlstrom as well in return) and the 2 picks with the 2 prospects is fine. Essentially the goal is to move out the $5m cap hit of Pageau to open up some space down the line.

Not bad could be a good target his face offs look great can't get his fancies was he passable defensively for you guys?

He wouldn't be a bad vet add we still might need him because of injuries down the line
He’s decent defensively and extremely good at faceoffs. He’s just invisible offensively.

He’s closer to future considerations territory unless NYI is retaining. That contract is ugly.
I just said picks and prospects so it’s not one of those even in even out cap type of trades. Not interested in retaining honestly.

According to Capfriendly, Lars Eller has no trade protection of any kind. He's signed for $2.45M for one more season.
He scored 15 goals and 16 assists for 31 points last season, with 73.7% Defensive Zone starts.
If the intent is to resign Krebs and have him as the future 3C but you want a stop gap 3C now that can help on the defensive side, Eller makes a ton of sense and quite honestly, you could probably get him for a song right now from Dubas.

Maybe a conditional 4th? Higher of the two 4th Buffalo has - Buf and Min?

Benefit is that Eller is still Eller. He's still providing a good level of play especially relative to his cap hit. If you look at the JG Pageau route, you're not getting $5mil 3C and you'd have to pay serious assets for a guy like Coyle. Eller would be cheap and provide good value. Best case, you roll into the playoffs with him stabilizing a bottom 6 line. Worst case, you sell him at the TDL for a 4th like the Penguins would do. I feel he's a guy you could absolutely recoup your assets with if it doesn't work out.

As a Pens fan, first guy I thought of as well.

I think Eller can get a 2nd round pick at the deadline if he has a usual season of 25-35 points and because the Pens could retain 50%. Thus I think that is his worth right now. At worst I think he gets a 3rd-4th at the deadline.

I think the Pens would take a 2nd or a decent prospect in return for him.

As far as RW, I think you could get Rakell now and by the deadline Rust could very well be available.

we’ll then have fun keeping JGP because no one is taking him when he’s past his prime without retention or YOU adding a pick😂😂 the fact that you think you’re going to get a package or would for him is beyond laughable
