We talked about, before the game, that we have been playing good hockey for a long time and we want to go into the playoffs feeling good about our game. For the most part tonight, that’s what we did. Offensively we had one of our best scoring chance night for the year. We are going to be over 20 and that’s a lot of scoring chances in a game. We kept them close to 10 I think, so it’s a good night. The power play scored a couple tonight and we had the Zuccy (Mats Zuccarello) wave before the game.

You want to get good habits and you want to try to play the game you want to play next week. You don’t want to change anything, your approach or your focus on the details, it needs to be here now and it needs to be there next week. You can’t take any shortcuts. You just need to focus the same way and take every game as an important game. Who knows, it can play a huge part in the end if we get the extra points here down the stretch and it put us in a better position.

Mats Zuccarello
I don’t think you can describe it in words. It’s surprising and I am really humbled. I have to thank everyone; it’s really big for me. I would probably put it as one of the highs in my career, so it’s really huge just to be a part of this team. There are so many guys here that deserve this prize and for me to get it, it’s pretty humbling.

A win tonight clinches a metro spot......An ROW with a regulation loss for Philly clinches seed 2, if I"m correct.

A ROW would mean they couldn't be a wildcard, but if Philly lost tonight and then won their next two, and the Rangers lost against Montreal they'd be tied in points and ROW and the season series was also tied, so I think it's down to goal differential in the head to head, which the Rangers with with a +2 I think.

Philly could still fall into the wildcard though and Columbus jump into the 3rd spot depending on how their last bunch of games go

This should be a really easy win.... and that's when you start to worry.

The Sabres - the worst team in the league, in disarray, missing players and with nothing significant to play for this season.

The Rangers - with great results in recent games, on home ice, playing for home ice advantage in the playoffs.

The absence of McDonagh and Kreider is not anywhere near a sufficient excuse for performing badly tonight.

The biggest risk that I see is the possibility of the players not going out with 100% intensity. Either because they are underestimating the opponent, thinking the game will win itself and/or because individual players don't want to get injured just as we're entering the playoffs.

The Sabres even without Miller seem to do a better than expected job of preventing goals. I worry about a 2-1 loss where we outshoot them 45-15. The Rangers have done a great job of losing those types of games this year.

From my porch the interesting thing will be to see how well the Rangers can off set the physical play and crease crashing by their opponents.

The best way to do that from a skill position is to have a PP firing on all cylinders.

The whole team will have to have everyone giving strong performances. Four players will have to prove/reaffirm that they belong in the Elite category:

Hank
MSL
McD
Zuuc

Underscore the above with the fact that Hank has to be flat out brilliant in these playoffs. He will need to steal at least a few games. Hopefully one or better two come in a final round.

Richards has to prove he's still relevant. Nash and Step need to have their first strong playoff performances. All that happens and the Rangers could go deep. If they do, they will need Kreider's big game abilities back in the lineup. This team is all but certain to be pretty banged up by the later rounds. Kreider could help to off set that.

But for the Rangers, it begins and ends with Hank.

Pretty sure that's incorrect. If Philly loses tonight and we win then we have 41 ROW and there's no way that Philly can catch us since they only have 38.

So if we win tonight with an ROW, and they lose in any way we own any tiebreak. But technically they would still be able to pass us with an OT/Shootout Loss.

Yep, confirmed, if we win tonight with an ROW and Philly loses in regulation, we clinch home ice.

This has all the makings of a typical Rangers let down game.

1. Home ice
2. Vastly inferior team in the standings with nothing to play for
3. Rangers need this game to help secure home ice
4. Not a doubt in my mind the Flyers will beat the Lightning ESPECIALLY if the Rangers lose tonight.

Let's hope these aren't your typical Rangers.

A real chance to make up for Saturday. This "clinch" should be just as important as it was Saturday to clinch the playoffs. Need that Metro slot. Win this game, no excuses. Hopefully get some help and clinch home ice as well, or wait till Saturday and hope the Pens have some gumption to want to not get embarassed by Philly again.

7 goals scored, Zucc reaches the 60p barrier, St Louis scores 4, Stepan passes Zucc for point lead.

Boyle with the coast to coast.

Loffen appears and makes the GDT.
