I can't say. I think it's far more likely that they want him to get the AHL experience for the rest of the season so he's as motivated as can be to make the team out of camp next year.

I wanna be w/this 100%.
However, if he actually got whipped into shape

Next year. He shouldn't see NHL ice again this season. I want to give him another shot as I still think if he is in better shape he will be a good defenseman for us. Also, even though our coach is an asshat, Smith didn't do himself any favors with his terrible play.

At 25 years old, I'm not sure how much potential he has left.
