It's a bit early to be talking about where he ends up, but he's a pretty likely trade candidate given the UFA status and solid play the past two years.

I hate seing multiple threads for the same player so I put this in as a catch all.

So....at this point is the season:

Most likely....
Dallas for Niemi + (?) could be an interesting play. I believe Niemi has negative value but the nucks could use a vet to let Demko develop next season.

Others:
LA - UFA status is interesting but the Nux will battle LA in the early part of the season.
SJ - Martin Jones proved a lot last year. I'm not sure this is the kind of veteran they need to provide an insurance policy for the playoffs and keep Jones rested. More intriguing at the deadline.
ANA - Sorted unless they trade Bernier and the Nux would need to retain half his salary.
NSH - Would typically dismiss based on geography but Nashville has the cap room. They might have the goalie of the future in Saros already...but this team is built to win now.

3rd with no retention, turns to 2nd if plays x games, wins x games, team moves pass 1st or 2nd round.

He is playing fantastic this year, imo a 2nd is more than fair.

Probably will suffer a injury and be unavailable for trade, and while reading him a bedtime story at the hospital Jim will decide to offer a 3 year extension

Nice post compared to the one above.

Dallas and SJ seem logical with the cap being all equaled out in package deal, retention.

If Hemsky is out long term, it's possible that Dallas could retain on Niemi in a deal for Miller. I wonder what else they could add to peak the Canucks' interest.

Kings should be in on this...if Canucks retain 50%

Dallas makes a lot of sense.

Canucks won't be looking to get a starter in return like Fleury. They already have Markström who is a capable starter and Demko developing in the AHL. Niemi would work as a backup to Markström for a year and the cap hit is manageable and contract is up at the end of 17/18 season. Canucks would likely ideally want 3 years of AHL play for Demko but that depends on his progression.

Niemi + 2nd round pick 2017

Guy's a free agent at season's end. LA should trade for him to help them while Quick's out.

I'd want more than that if we're stuck with Niemi for another year at $4.5M. It would probably cost a 2nd just to dump that Niemi contract.

Budaj has enjoyed a rebirth this season, going 4-2-0 with a 1.99 goals-against average and .916 save percentage. He's won all three games so far at Staples Center, allowing just seven goals on 72 shots.

Kings have other injuries that are a bigger concern then our goaltending. We need to score some goals (being shutout in our last 2 games) Also McNabb getting hurt we have gilbert forbert green suderi as our 4-7 which is pretty bad

The Canucks should hold any team that wants Miller ransom. I say a late 1st or no deal.

NiemI is signed longer term then Miller, whosee contract expires this year. I'm happy to retain on Miller, or take a bad, but very short term, cap dump back, but taking NiemI on defeats the purpose of us moving Miller: It's Markstrom's time to start, we're clearing a path for Demko to work into a playing role, and we gain cap space to make moves over the summer.

He has average to below average numbers for each of the last 3 years.

Not many teams gonna have much interest in him. Maybe gets a 3rd, only if he's retained and if a team loses it's backup to injury.

MAF for Miller+2nd.

Not sure if Van would want another signed goalie back, but this makes a lot of sense for the Pens if Miller would stay for a chance to play on a contender. Would be okay with offering him 2 years at 2 - 2.25 mil per to backup Murray. I think the pick from Van would have to be lower, or switch it to a prospect.

3rd is fair value no retention. Any cap dumps or retention will require a bump in price, this isn't the Salvation Army here. No charity work just because this team can't score goals.
At the very least a tandem of Miller/Marky can keep us in most games instead of just diving into the Tank with both feet. Throwing Markstrom to the 65 game fire doesn't seem smart, a more natural progression from his career high 30+ games last year to a 40+ this year is what makes sense.

Anything involving a signed goaltender should automatically be even more. I'd rather dump 2 million in a one year back up offer to a guy like Bernier than having 4.5 in an even worse Niemi. At least Bernier is just made of glass but still decently talent. Niemi just sucks. And sucks on one of the best scoring teams in the league.

I'd be more willing to take back a forward like Wingles who gets paid too much for what he brings to a Sharks team looking to contend. At least the Canucks get some use out of him on the ice rather than a butt to fill a seat on the bench.

Are you guys high??? Vancouver pays extra for doing the Penguins a massive favor of taking on MAF for 2.5 seasons at 5.75 per?

Huge pass from Vancouver. Do you guys actually look at any of the underlying numbers before you make these ridiculous proposals?
